Are future cruise certificates really being discontinued after this month?

It was free money. What other cruise line offers? I'm thinking none.

Some incentive for booking a cruise while on a cruise is more typical and Carnival is simply aligning themselves with the industry and being more competitive. Hardly a cutback.

NCL offers a great program, they give you $100 instantly to use on the cruise you are on.

So .. its just the certificate gone, you cant buy one and bring it home.. but you still get the same OBC by booking onboard right?

I purchased a cruise for 2013 while sailing this year on the Freedom. It appears nothing has changed regarding the on board credit. I got $100 for a 7 day cruise and it appeared on my paper work (Carnival Invoice) about a week after I got home. I found the process very easy to follow. The Carnival rep was very helpful and provided a data sheet of every cruise I inquired about. They also had large maps of the ship decks that you could reference. I met with the rep about the 2nd day of the cruise and then made my final decision about 3 or 4 days later. I submitted the name of my TA and it appeared on the paperwork provided by the Carnival rep. The process was very easy to do and I had no problems.

I do have a question, however. In addition to the credit, I also got 2 vouchers that you can give to friends and family who will also get the $100 credit if they book the same cruise as you do. They have to do their booking within 60 days from the time you booked your cruise. After they book, they provide you with their names and booking number and you put the data on the voucher and submit it. In my case, my 2 friends also got the $100 credit. Carnival makes no mention of the vouchers in their new program. I hope it still applies.

WOW! Not much of an OBC for me in the future. Just sold my stock at $37 and now this. Hmmmmm, I guess I can book while on a cruise, but would PVP still get credit for the cruise? Time will tell.

As per my PVP. If we were to book on board while on a cruise she booked us on. She gets credit. I asked that in the past.

Justs read that they are going to be real nice to us and if you book on the ship can get 100 obc for 7 day cruise.

Really dont want to spend time on a cruise planning and booking our next one. Much rather do that when we get home at our leisure.

Im with you.

And in light of above question... Does that mean that when you book the next one on board the PVP or TA is cut out??? PVP's and TA's need to check that out.

so its just the certificates gone.. you can still book onboard and get OBC??

From what i read. Yes.

I sure hate this. Was planning on buying more next month.

In the beginning they were good for 5 years and the duration has been reduced and reduced. 0 was the natural progression.

They were always meant for new bookings only, but people kept using and abusing them for existing bookings and then complaining when Carnival started enforcing the rules that were always stated. Once again, I think people abusing the system brought about its demise.

You can still get the equivalent by booking a cruise while on a cruise on select ships. No big deal. Just plan ahead a little.

Your lack of creditability is showing again. Last time we tried to book aboard and use the fcc we were in the process of purchasing they would not give us the rates shown on the website and refused to even look.

Do we really need to spend time waiting on line to book a cruise during our vacation? Purchasing an FCC at the right time took about 30 seconds.

Here's a question, in the fine print on the back of the certificate, item 13, it says:

Certificate void where prohibited or restricted by law. This certificate shall have no expiration date for purchasers in California and New Hampshire or where otherwise required by law.

Wonder what Carnival is planning to do about that?

Well it just shows that Carnival isn't interested in keeping customers returning. They are looking for the new cruisers. It seems most of their changes lately affect those who cruise more. They don't want loyal cruisers. Only they know their reasons and they don't seen to care what we think. That's why I have been looking at other lines. I will still cruise with Carnival but probably not as much.

I hope those people buy 100 and keep right on using them :D

Someone needs to stick it back to Carnival for once.

I actually sat through the sales pitch on my cruise LAST WEEK and NOTHING was mentioned about this being discontinued. I purchased one and planned on purchasing another one in December. Now I wish I had purchased a couple of them. I'm more upset about they way the news is being delivered than with the news itself.

This looks pretty interesting. I'm definitely thinking about a NCL cruise out of NOLA next spring, I'll check it out. We've sailed NCL several times but left them when Star Cruises took over. I understand they've returned to the NCL that we used to like. We're booked on our 20th CCL cruise next month, but think we'll look to returning to other lines we've sailed.

I agree! My schedule can be tentative so I liked the flexibility of the FCC. Poor choice here Carnival!

The ONLY thing surprising about this is that it took until page 3 for Sarge to chime in with his typical response.

As soon as I saw the title of the thread I knew within a few words what his pro carnival spin would be.

They need to extend the date until 12/31/12 for the discontinuation of sales. I would be ok with that and with a limit of 2-4 per passenger.

This isn't people abusing the system. This is carnival not following/enforcing their policy.

What next????? They are not looking out for their loyal cruisers. We have a cruise next month and planned on buying 2 more, bought 2 two weeks ago. Wish I had known I would have bought more. Not much notice, but another cutback for Carnival.

I usually spend hours researching which cabin/location I want to book on a ship. And I would like my pvp to get credit for the booking - not some random person at a desk on a ship. Can't see myself booking my next cruise while on board. (though I have seen people doing it) Knowing my luck, the cabin I had my eye on would be booked when I went to book, and I'd make a bad split second decision booking another.

Wrong!!!

Bill, I have posted the text of the original forms (as a graphic scan) several times, and even posted a YouTube link to one of the early presentations where Hai & Vivienne clearly verbalized they could be used on already-booked sailings. You've even responded directly back to me about those postings, saying my statement were correct.

They strongly explained the certificates could not be used on previosuly booked sailings if final payment had already been completed, and then I demonstrated to them how even that was possible (simply by adding pre-paid gratuities to the existing booking, thus creating a balance due).

The program did evolve . . . and now eventually disolve, but the rules at the end did not equal the rules at the beginning. Heck, Carnival even pulled their corporate heads out of a very dark place and ceased punishing their solo cruisers, who paid 200% for anything above a 1A, by cutting their OBC in half. What an originally doofus decision that was.
