Bye Bye Norway

It appears that the Norway will begin her long journey from Bremerhaven via ocean going tug starting tomorrow. (9am their time)

It has been comforting to check the webcam every now and then to see she still was waiting a better fate.

I will be watching tomorrw to see if she really does leave.

Has the NORWAY's final disposition been revealed yet? Will she still remain "in service" of some sort, or should we fear the worst...words I do not want to put into print!

Still there but the stack is smoking, but presumably it does that anyway

Hi Tony. I noticed the stack smoking also but if they are using any part of the ship for anything, do they not have to have electricity fired up? Perhaps that is the smoke coming from the front stack as power is being generated.

Do you, or anyone, know what that large thing is seen in front of it (from the webcam position) that was not there two days ago? I can not figure that out.

The parent company of NCL, Star cruise hopes to convert the Norway into a hotel/casino in Singapore in a joint venture with Genting Co. which operates casinos in several countries.

If this works out, we can still go see the Norway in Singapore. :)

I looked at the web cam about 30 minutes ago and you could see the Norway in the left top corner of the web cam. I couldnt tell if She was moving or had just been moved, but I guess she has left for her long tow to Asia.

From my perspective, the speculation on the final disposition of the Norway has been one of the most intriguing subjects to come upon the cruising industry in some time. I'm surprised to see that some of the most predominant websites on the industry, Maritime Matters and SSMaritime, were "scooped" on her movement today.

While it would have been nice if it were possible to update the Norway, her fans were fortunate to have her around for a little while longer after 9-11. I was on her during the 1st farewell season and frankly she just couldn't compare to some of the more elegant mid-priced cruise ships out there. When you looked at rooms on the Norway that had been renovated extensively like the shops and the spa you could clearly see what could have been done with enough money. Instead there was the exposed plumbing of the fire system, only two outdoor hottubs, 80's style rooms like Le Bristro and the Disco, so on and so forth. Looking at her from port though, even with those 2 decks slapped on top, she was a looker. It's just too bad that the interiors weren't up to todays demands and that her boilers eventually failed her. Makes you wonder what would have happened had she been "dieselized" a ways back like the QE2 or other old liners have been, would she still be out there?

Kinda sad to see her go, but I think it was her time. Bye-Bye Blue Lady!

Great pictures! She still looks as handsome and classy as ever...at least the waiting is over and she's on her way somewhere, wherever that may be. As for the photo opportunity--yet another demonstration that they don't build 'em like they used to. There are some reasonably attractive newbuilds, but PoA isn't soon likely to be one of them! Reminds me of a picture I saw once, circa 1962...the brand-new SS France passing the old French Line flagship Liberte. Change is constant, even when it's not necessarily an improvement.

Here is a link to pictures of the Norway taken this weekend. The site is in German, but click on "updates" and then the Norway. There are a few good shots there.

I have to agree. The best looking part of the POAM is the paint job. The ship looks a bit like a humpback and what's with the two balconies forward. Looks like a destroyer coming toward you. What a contrast

Many thanks for posting your pictures. My apologies for the language error. Dutch is not one of the languages I have knowledge of. Again, many thanks for your pictures and my apologies.
