up-grade while on board ???

It is very rare when the ships do not go out full.

You certainly can ask but don't count on it.

If a ship has empty cabins, they mark them down prior to sailing until they fill them. A head in every bed........... :)

In the rare event when we have read of someone successfully buying an upgrade on sail day, they did not get any discount. IF you really want to buy a better cabin, do it prior to sail date if there are any available.

I recently sailed on the Ryndam and met a woman who told me that after we sailed, she realized that she and her roommate did not get along that well as roommates, so she moved to a new cabin as a solo. She said it was "very expensive" (I assume she had to pay full price for the new solo cabin) and she considered herself lucky that there was an empty cabin available.

I don't know if it was an upgrade.

It depends on the itinerary. Some sell out quickly - others don't.

On our Alaskan Amsterdam cruise there were empty cabins. I have read here where many of the Med cruises are not sold out.

Bottom line -- you can go to the front desk and ask.

But be prepared to pay a hefty sum for that upgrade. No discounts once you are on the ship.

If there is a cabin you are interested in - have your TA call and get a price quote for you.

I did inquire about an upgrade when I took my daughter on a cruise for her college graduation, yes, there was a verandah (her dad and I always book those) available, and yes I could upgrade but there was no break in $$.

You would have to pay the difference.

I'm sure if there was availability they would be happy to have you upgrade for the price.

And no, I did not do the upgrade...saved the $$ for when her dad and I cruised:D.

Maybe when she is established and in the big leagues she will take ME on a cruise...with the upgrade
