In Dubrovnik last week with NCL Jade

We were visited old town and walked the wall for a day.

NCL offered shutter bus to old city for $10USD unlimited rides for the day. Taxi ride from dock to Old city is only $10 Euro. Four people can share a taxi for 2.50 Euro each.

We took the 1C city bus for 15Kuna. City bus stop is right at dock, bus ticket can be purchased from bus driver. Other reviews already mentioned, bus no. 1A, 1B, 1C, 3, 8 all go to old city.

 

Entrance to old city is free. but to walk the wall is 70 Kuna, you can pay by credit card. When you enter by Pile gate, ticket office for the Wall is to your right. The Wall ticket also includes entrance to St. Lawrence Fort just outside Pile gate.

 

If you see a big red building next to the dock, that's Konzum supermarket. You can buy soda, wine and local stuff to take back to ship. You can also find Konzum supermarket in Old city but the one at dock is much bigger.

Very good summary. Appreciate your sharing. Yes, there is more to do in wonderful Dubrovnik than the walk walk, etc. Very historic and interesting city. Much does depending on the temperature when visiting and how many ships are in port. As noted wisely, a cab shared by four people can be cost-effective. This includes doing the Panoramic tour as noted below at 50 euro for four people during an hour-long introduction.

Did a June 7-19, 2011, Solstice cruise from Barcelona that had stops in Villefranche, ports near Pisa and Rome, Naples, Kotor, Venice and Dubrovnik. Enjoyed great weather and a wonderful trip. We started in Dubrovnik with a local cab driver who gave us a “panoramic tour”, including crossing this unique bridge near the main cruise ship docking area. He called this bridge their “Golden Gate” like in San Francisco. It is nine years old. You can see the Solstice docked to the right side and other newer housing around this bay NW of the historic walled city.:

 

 

 

Then we drove up and up through narrow twisting roads to the high point overlooking Dubrovnik and near the cable car high station. From this point, we could also see part of Bosnia and and Montenegro. The “super star” view was down below with this angle of the harbor and walled city. Beautiful!!!:

 

 

 

Here is the view of the Cable Car going down from the high point over Dubrovnik with interesting areas and islands west of the city shown. This cable car has been re-built since the early 1990’s war years. It’s a dramatic coastline with great views here!:

Great follow-up questions. Not sure that you could reserve one of the taxi's ahead. We went across the new bridge that was shown above, plus seeing a little up the nearby river, then we drove up and up to get the great overview of the main, historic, walled city. Then, went nearby to where the Cable Car arrives at the top. Wonderful views from up there. Then, we came down and he dropped us nearby the main gate to enter the walled city.

 

On drivers, I would talk with a couple to see how well they can communicate in English, their "personality/style", etc. Our driver was excellent in giving us an interesting and informative sample for how the early 1990's battles impacted people there, affected his family directly with people killed, etc. Very touching and connecting for what happened there as that larger country broke up after Marshal Tito's death during their civil war. It was a great introduction for this great city and this fascinating part of the world. Below are a few added visuals from doing this trip before exploring the walled city.
