Hotel/transfer in Miami

We're taking the Miama-Barcelona TA in 2014. We always like to fly in a day early, and were really taken aback by the cost of the hotel Oceana uses, but if we don't take it we have to pay air deviation, transfer, etc. Suggestions/comments wanted. We feel like we're between the proverbial rock and a hard place. Thank you.

I like to fly in a day early too. I stay at the Hampton Inn/Brickell. The taxi fare is relatively inexpensive-and they they have a shuttle that takes you to the cruise ship. It is inexpensive as well. The hotel is ranked number one on Trip Advisor. Check it out.

I assume you are talking about the hotel package as opposed to the "free" hotel that is occasionally offered.

We always do our own air but if we use O's air, then we probably have a deviation. I think if you investigate further you will see that the cost of a hotel on your own (even the SAME hotel that O is using) will still be less, even accounting for a deviation charge and getting there on your own. Cabs in Barcelona aren't that expensive. The transfer fees (which are per person) ARE.

Plus, you don't have to stay in a 5 star hotel anyway! There are a number of threads discussing lower down hotels in very convenient neighborhoods both for the old city AND the port. When we stayed at the Continental Barcelona (***) our cab ride to the ship was about €8 ... admittedly, that was 7 years ago.

You should NOT feel that you have to take their package.

We have stayed at the Hampton Inn Blue Lagoon MIA frequently. They have a stay/cruise deal where you stay one night and they bring you to the Port of Miami to your cruise ship included in the price. Also, free jitney from the airport to the hotel. Rates are reasonable, and they have a decent free breakfast and terrific beds. Clean facility and very near MIA.

I called Sofitel and they have a van that goes to the port that costs $10 PP. I booked the Hampton Blue lagoon on line, hope they do the cruise - to dock deal works with this type of booking.:( Cost less than Sofitel and get breakfast at Hampton.
