Island Magic Steelband

Last week on the Zuiderdam, passengers were treated to three (2 evening, 1 matinee) performances of the Island Magic Steelband (see: http://islandmagicsteelband.webs.com/ourmusicians.htm videos: http://islandmagicsteelband.webs.com/apps/videos/).

 

They performed classical, big band and calypso/carribean numbers. They got several enthusiatic standing ovations from the crowd for their great showmanship.

 

I spoke with two of the band members who noted they have a contract through April with HAL. If you're on a carribean cruise, hopefully you'll get to see them firsthand.

We saw them on the Z Panama Canal cruise Thanksgiving 2010. They were fabulous. Even my DH loved all their performances. :) We couldn't get enough of them.

We saw them on the Zuiderdam in 2009 on a Panama Canal Cruise. They're fantastic!

That's not fair! They only did 1 evening show and 1 matinee when I was on Zuiderdam. I would have loved to see them in a third show. What a wonderful group, even if they didn't play "Freebird" for me. ;)

They are fantastic and not to be missed. I wish they were on the Noordam that we are going on. Saw them twice on the Zuidy and would go see them again at a drop of a hat.

We only had 1 evening performance and 1 day time show.

On ours they did a "special" encore performance because so many people had requested it. That only happened on the trip we did last year.

That is tremendous! I wish they were on Westerdam instead, though. I always thought how nice it would to have a steel band around the pool deck on a sea day in the Caribbean. I guess I'll have to go back to NCL for that.

Yes that was the good old days, live music by the pool - yes I know they have the HAL Cats, but that is not the same as what they used to have when it was more "Island" music.

The first two cruises we were on they had steel bands playing by the pool. Those were the day's. I wish they were on every cruise.

Does anyone know if they are they only performing on the Zuiderdam? Or will they board other HAL ships which happen to stop in their Home port, such as the Prinsendam, when we are on our way to SA via the canal?
