I suggested to DH that we bring a magnum, a jeroboam or a on board with us but he told me that wouln't do. Not enough.

According to him we must each bring a balthazar, a nabuchodonosor or even, preferably, a melchior :Daboard. That from a guy, who has been seen, although he will most vehemently deny it, settling for, enjoying and even, on occasion buying boxed wine.;) I know, for sure. He bought a box of Australian Wallaroo yesterday. Of course he said it was for me.:p

So I reported earlier that our wine was confiscated while boarding the freedom this morning. I just checked at guest services and they said to check back with them in the morning and we should be able to have it delivered to our stateroom tomorrow. I am not going to be able to post an update until we return.

Thanks for reporting back. At least the people on board seem to have acknowledged the change in policy, which is good. Hope you have a great cruise.
And another thing. In every port that I've noticed prohibited items being confiscated from carry-on luggage, it's been ship personnel who man the table where they are turned in. If Guest Services knows about the new policy (as reported here), why doesn't the onboard department in charge of setting up the table???? She asked rhetorically.
The security officer that took our wine this morning in PC told us that she was not a royal caribbean employee. We were joking when she said that any items not picked up on the last morning became ship property that they used them for staff parties and she said she was not RC staff. She was wearing a port canaveral security uniform.

Therein is the problem. The staff performing the security search is not RCCL employees. They are use to an RCCL policy of no alcohol. I don't see this resolving itself for several weeks, unfortunately. If someone is on vacation or rotates from other checkpoints, they might be unaware of the change - once it is finally, fully communicated. Not to mention, it appears the ships staff is not fully aware of the change.

As a previous poster stated, someone from RCCL should brief them each time before boarding begins of the change so the passengers are not inconveinenced.

I hope you have a great cruise - fill us in when you get back.

This is our first cruise on Royal Caribbean & I am really hoping we're going to love them, so I guess to avoid any disappointment I shouldn't get too excited just yet about bringing wine aboard the Liberty next weekend. Perhaps I can try it & bring a printout of the chat session with the Royal Caribbean representative the other day that confirmed (and sent a copy) of the new wine policy. It would be a wee bit annoying to take the time to purchase a couple of my favorites at the wine store near the port, only to have them taken away. Hmmm..What to do...what to do..

Interesting. I haven't paid attention to the setup there. In LA they had a table with ship's crew where one turned in contraband after going through security. But that was almost 3 years ago (grumble). Edited by critterchick
You're joking right? Imagine if everyone acted this cheap, the policy would disappear in a blink of eye.
No I was not joking. For many on these boards a $25 corkage fee per bottle is a lot of money. Apparently you are fortunate enough that it is not a lot for you. Good for you Edited by molly361

Have not read all the pages of this thread but the RCI site still says No Alcohol allowed to be brought on board. Does someone know where the new policy press release is? Would like to print it out and have it for our Dec cruise (and I apologize if someone already has posted this-I have limited time to be online tonight)

To my knowledge, the new policy has not been posted on Royal's US website. It does show up on the UK website, and many posters have reported having called Royal and confirmed the new policy.
We just disembarked from the Allure and I can assure you that they are NOT allowing wine bottles to be carried on yet. Some in our group had them confiscated.
It wasn't in effect till just a few days ago,so your cruise was still under the old rules..

If so, that was before the new policy came into effect on Nov 1st.

Therefore, as you are only allowed to bring wine and champagne onboard at the time of embarkation, this would explain why members of your group had it taken and stored until the end of the cruise.

Any alcohol brought onboard from ports of call or purchased from the onboard shops will be kept until the end of your cruise.

I'm sailing on Brilliance out of San Juan next Saturday. It makes me SO happy to be able to bring my champagne on board for my pleasure while dressing for dinner. Thank you all for posting hour-by-hour experiences. Did I just read that you can smoke in the Casino of Brilliance? II'm a smoker and I think that's really disgusting. I can't imagine smoking in a room filled with people, no way I could enjoy my cigarette. I'll have to check that out.
How difficult can it be to inform the security employees of the change in policy??
not everybody reads the memos. and even if they shouted from the rooftops and handed out flyers every day for a month as you came into work, somebody somewhere would fail to grasp the concept.

old habits can be hard to break...

for cryin' out loud.. for the Umpteenth time.. the corkage fee is ONLY assessed if you consume IN THE DINING ROOMS.

since the vast majority of us will be CONSUMING IN THE PRIVACY OF OUR CABINS this is a moot point and only worth noting as a piece of interest . it has been stated a bazillion times that pouring yourself a glass and bringing it in to dinner is PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE and not against any policy..stated or otherwise.

in other words it will be EXTREMELY easy to avoid the corkage fee with little to no inconvenience at all.

The corkage fee is charged at the bars also...not just the Dining rooms.

I can see pouring a glass of wine in a tumbler and bringing it to the dining room doesn't look good. Heck -that doesn't look good taking anywhere. But I don't see where bringing a glass of wine into the dining room in a wine glass is so awful. I have take many an unfinished drink into dinner.

So if I go to a bar for a pre-dinner drink (which I buy) and then carry it into the dining room, is that classless??

Last time I was on the Oasis, the bar service is the MDR was awful. After not being able to get our wine (or any drinks) on the first night, we would stop at the bar right near the main entrance to the MDR and buy our glasses of wine and carry them into the dining room. Would you consider me classless? How would you know if I bought it at a bar or if I smuggled it onboard and carried it from my room???
