Cruise ship for sale!

Recommended Posts

Hi Mower Lady, Thanks for taking the time to help, we will definitely keep insureandgo in mind as it sounds very good from what you say. Can I just ask if your husband recovered well after the bypass with no complications at all?

Luckily there haven't been any complications, but its taken longer than we expected to get back to 'normal', its been 9 months and although can do everything he used to, still gets odd twinges where everything is still healing inside. when you start talking to people its amazing how many people have this op and stents, its quite common nowadays. It hasn't stopped us cruising,we've been on 2 this year, and will probably do a couple next year as well.

Hi Mower Lady, so pleased your husband is on the mend and all is well now apart from the "twinges" :)

If it has been sold, it would make sense for Thomson to lease it back from the new owners for the remainder of this season, and make any 'internal ship transfers' the following year, if the rumors of a 'new' ship for the Thomson brand is true they will have the capacity to do so.

One thing i have noticed is that the prices when i started looking to book for Oct 2013 in July this year, were more expensive than the Dream, i know at that time the Dream was offering the free AI so not a true like for like, but even now prices are fairly comparable? Am i being cynical in thinking if they did loose the IE and could not find a replacement they could push PX across to the Dream as the itinerary's are similar as is the prices paid

Who knows maybe they will close the brand down completely or amalgamate it into Thomson Cruises non Platinum Brand.

Don't know if this is relevant but the 4th ship looks to me like an MSC ship

If anyone would give me a list of what ships they think have been sold, I might be able to dig something up, working for shipping lawyers sometimes does have its advantages ;)

No such company, may be a umbrella company for another one, but no company of that name listed

Rumour going around that Celebrity Century has been sold to CDF Croisières de France, owned by Royal Caribbean. They currently sail ex-Island Star.

Other ships that have been rumoured about being sold or on the market are Thomson Majesty, Louis Olympia and possibly Thomson Spirit (depending on its contract) all owned by Louis, Island Escape owned by TUI, MS Statendam owned by Holland America Line and Carnival Fantasy.

Any info on any of them would be greatly appreciated! :D

Have also spoken to someone in the "wet" deparment, and they said we won't know if the ships are sold and who has brought them until all paper has gone through to Lloyds. Shipowners are normally very very quiet about ship sales, but will keep eyes open and ear to the ground.

Hi Isis2 :)

Looks like it could be down to what you said that "may be a umbrella company for another one."

On the link I posted it does say Royal Caribbean is the parent company .

I will never understand why companies run ships under one trade name and probably insure under another

Guess its like me owning a car but letting someone else drive and insure it really :). The murky world of shipping :D

Well CDF exists with headquarters in Paris. Of course as a Royal Caribbean brand it might not own any ships of its own at all.

Found the thread and article finally where we were discussing about all the ships Louis had for sale. Found this article, written from last year. Explains a bit about Louis future:

Louis Cruises ready for a West Med come back

The Cyprus-based company, while swapping tonnage with Thomson, illustrates its future strategy

Louis Cruises announced the deployment of its cruiseship Thomson Destiny in its own brand operations as of this coming season - replacing the Louis Majesty, chartered to Thomson Cruises, better suited for 7 and 14day cruises - out of Piraeus and Kusadasi as of May 11th.

Refurbished this year, the new addition to the own brand operations is ideal for 3 and 4day cruises to the Greek islands and Turkey. Featuring 9 passenger decks, she can accommodate 1,664 passengers in 725 comfortable and welcoming staterooms, 419 of which with window views and 21 suites, 9 of which with balconies. The Thomson Destiny will be renamed Louis Olympia, after the ancient sanctuary and archeological site of Olympia, birthplace of the Olympic Games, to provide her passengers with a truly Hellenic experience, fitting with Greece’s vast history and culture.

“The deployment of the Louis Olympia in our ex Piraeus and Kusadasi itineraries marks a new era for us at Louis Cruises since it further enhances our profile as the Aegean and East Med specialists. She is coupled with the Louis Cristal which operates 7day cruises out of Piraeus and Istanbul” commented, Kerry Anastassiadis, new CEO of Louis Cruises.

The Cyprus-based company’s future strategy where better illustrated by the Executive Chairman of Louis Group, Costakis Loizou, in a comprehensive interview released to Cruise & Ferry Info-Shippax, from it emerged that it is determined to emerge as a much fitter company boasting a more modern fleet that will serve a wider variety of itineraries. “We are currently reviewing our business, a process which will take two years. We want to establish ourselves as the major player in the East Med and the Aegean, but we don’t want to be too dependent on this market alone and have the clear ambition to expand in the rest of the Mediterranean. The ast few years we were already present in the West Med and operated out of Genoa and Marseilles. However, we felt that we did not have the right tonnage. So we have pulled out for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. It is very hard to compete with small and older ships. The reorganization of the business will see older and smaller units being disposed of and replaced by bigger, more competitive and economical ships which can operate in the Mediterranean throughout the winter” he said

Can we expect Louis ordering new ships or it is wiser to go second hand tonnage?

“A couple of years ago we talked to a South Korean shipyard that developed a newbuilding project. However, for us these newbuilding plans have been shelved for the time being. The first ambition is to strengthen our presence in the East Med where we operate modern and excellent ships which are perfect for this operation, but we would like to supplement them by one or two additional second hand ships with a capacity of some 800-1,000 cabins. For the restart of our Western Mediterranean operations, we will look for two more vessels of similar size Since we expect to introduce these three to four ships only in 2014, we are currently not actively looking but we will do so at a later stage. Some of our ships were already acquired from subsidiaries belonging to the Big Three, so we don’t expect problems in securing the type and kind of ships we have in mind from the market”.

Louizou confirmed Louis Cruises will continue to be a niche player offering itineraries which the others don’t. “We will not change strategy following the introduction of bigger ships, quite the contrary actually. Also in the West Med we will serve niche markets with not so common routings and homeports. We already did so during our earlier West Med seasons with our ships homeporting in Genoa and Marseilles. Whereas other operators traditionally operate one week cruises, we will also offer shorter 3 to 4 day cruises, similar to what we do in the East Med. This will attract a wider customer base. We are particularly interested in the French market where we already have a good network and an excellent name. Our plan is to introduce a suitable cruise ship dedicated entirely to the French market” he concluded.

In summary, they're looking at increasing their own itinerary programme. They're looking at 3/4 newer and larger ships for 2014, probably second-hand from the Big 3. Also, the new build they were discussing with South Korea won't happen for now.

Don't know how much that will affect Thomson. I'm guessing they will get Spirit back so they then will be operate that for the Western Med. If they're looking at 3/4 new ships, even if they increase their itinerary programme, that would leave at least 1 or maybe 2 that could be leased to Thomson.
