jarz85 Posted November 19, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 19, 2012 Just received an email from Royal Caribbean Australia telling us that our itinerary has slightly changed. Nassau has been changed from a 3:00pm departure to 2:00pm. Not a huge difference for us as we had no excursions planned, but just letting you know. Rare DragonOfTheSeas Posted November 19, 2012 #2 Share Posted November 19, 2012 It was already a very short port stop.
catr13 Posted November 19, 2012 #3 Share Posted November 19, 2012 I got the same email today! I was heaps worried it had changed dramtically. I can live with leaving an hour earlier.
Rare BillOh Posted November 19, 2012 #4 Share Posted November 19, 2012 It's back to what it was in 2011. Rising fuel prices? Perhaps they don't want to have to make up that hour in route to St Thomas?

I wonder when they were planning on telling us? Not every cruise has an Aussie!

You will probably get it at 11am-12pm your time today? Maybe they are to be sent out at the same time/date worldwide?
cruise wizard Posted November 19, 2012 #7 Share Posted November 19, 2012 To me Nassau is a wasted port anyway. We treat it as a "sea day" but have plenty of pool chairs as most of the passengers are on shore. Oh, the peace and quiet......but now it will be 1 hour shorter!!!!!!!!!!! m*u*g* Posted November 19, 2012 #8 Share Posted November 19, 2012 Was hoping this thread was good news-new port. not really an itenerary (route) change, just departure time. I see this as good news-worst port in the carribean. Always check the signs when leaving the ship. plus always be back an hour early to be on time and avoid long lines. For me, I would just stay on board.

Rare BillOh Posted November 19, 2012 #10 Share Posted November 19, 2012 My sentiments exactly. I can't remember the last time we stepped onto Nassau soil. That is what we did last time on this same itinerary, but it was our anniversary and our first time on that class of ship. We were thinking of getting off and doing a Segway tour and getting back after some time at The Frog. Maybe the 1 hour earlier will keep my wife out of the @$$#$ straw market. Cruising89143 Posted November 19, 2012 #11 Share Posted November 19, 2012 At one time it was a 12:30 all aboard and a 1:00 departure time. It was then moved to 2:00 and then later to 3:00. I see now that they are backing it back up to 2:00.

Rare Familygoboston Posted November 19, 2012 #15 Share Posted November 19, 2012 Possibly only certain itineraries are affected not all dates? I haven't had an email either, and really I guess they aren't required to inform us at all. I wish they were there longer, Id love to take an excursion to see the flamingos on one of the out islands, but you'd need a long day, like in St thomas. I think one reason people are down on it is there isn't enough time to really get out and explore! I'll have to check the Cruise Compass when I get onboard see what it says!;)

RoamingRetirees Posted November 19, 2012 #17 Share Posted November 19, 2012 I don't expect an email. They added a port on our September Jewel TA, and we never received notice. Adding the new port also changed the departure time from the previous port by a couple of hours. No email. I found out--where else--Cruise Critic. Elizanessie Posted November 19, 2012 #18 Share Posted November 19, 2012 After reading the first post on this thread I went to the RCCL website and looked at the Itinerary for 12/9 sailing and yes there was the new time for departure from Nassau - 2pm Thanks OP for the heads up :D
peteukmcr Posted November 19, 2012 #19 Share Posted November 19, 2012 Received my letter on Nov 16th for our sailing on May 12th 2013 and it did not imply any other dates were affected. The introduction stated that the change is due to speed restrictions as quoted below. I am sorry to let you know that we have had to change the itinerary for your sailing as above. We only take this action when necessary. On this occasion, we have had to alter the ships itinerary due to speed restrictions. So what exactly the speed restrictions are, I have no idea. Most likely self imposed speed restrictions to save fuel and therefore, costs. Also means the shops and casino an be open one extra hour and so that will hopefully generate more revenue for RCI as will having a ship full of people spending onboard in the bars and fee paying eateries, instead of ashore :D Don't call me cynical, just realistic. I agree with you. And RCI should just come right out and say it. I find it more annoying when companies make various changes and then put forth reasons that make little sense as if they feel their customers are dumb. It always seems a bit disrespectful of them. Are we to believe that there is suddenly some new imposed speed limit between the Bahamas on St. Thomas or does the ship have a propulsion issue causing a slow down? Of course it is about money. Cruiser21 Posted November 20, 2012 #21 Share Posted November 20, 2012 Wish we could dock in ST Thomas at 8am an hour early. It makes it easier to get to private excursions.
efields2 Posted November 20, 2012 #22 Share Posted November 20, 2012 I just finalized my booking on a 2014 eastern Allure cruise and the cruise docs do say a 2pm departure now.
slh182 Posted November 20, 2012 #23 Share Posted November 20, 2012 I wonder if my husband got this email. I also wonder if we will have enough time to go to the Atlantis. It is my first time going to the Bahamas, so I want to get off of the ship.

It is my first time going to the Bahamas, so I want to get off of the ship. I don't think Atlantis opens until 9 am, so it's not going to give you a whole lot of time there. It's a big facility and you need quite a few hours to be able to get your money's worth. When is your cruise? Traffic can also get backed up on the island depending on the time of year and how many ships are in port, so make sure you take that into consideration.
