wizard-of-roz Posted November 19, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 19, 2012 My answer....On no other form of a vacation can I feel like such a queen! I pack and unpack ONCE! My Steward makes me feel like he's mine alone [not that he has 100+ other people just like me to attend to.] From the moment I step out of my car and enter the pier I feel so special and so welcomed. The dock workers are busy but pleasant and efficient. The Princess greeters and registration staff are some of the very best in the business. My room is freshened-up twice a day, with a chocolate on my pillow each night. I have many choices to chose from for dining and the people who serve me care about me and my vacation. I have choices of where and what to do with no pressure to do anything. I have a chance to wear diamonds and gowns if I want to or simply be casual the entire cruise. I'm entertained, fed and well rested. I have the glorious open sea to smell and admire, play bingo or sit in a lounge with a recently released movie to watch. I can sit and read a book, lay by the pool or just go take a relaxing nap. I can order room service and eat in my room or join my fellow passengers, make a new friend and enjoy a meal and a ice cream cone while watching a movie or listen to music out by the pool. If I feel like shopping there are stores onboard to browse in or casinos to win or spend all my money. I don't ever have to leave the ship. I can go to my cabin at the end of the day and get rocked to sleep and wake-up in a new city or exciting new country every day. The above are some of my very favorite things. Did I leave anything out? What are some of your very favorite things?
sunsetbeachgal Posted November 19, 2012 #2 Share Posted November 19, 2012 hi Roz, I enjoyed meeting you and Horton on the Sapphire in October. He is such a good boy!! We loved that California Coastal itinerary, and the Sapphire is my new favorite Princess ship, but unfortinately Living on the East Coast I don't anticipate sailing on her very much!!:(. Lucky you! Maybe Princess will send her to the East Coast someday...fat chance!! I love cruising for all of the things you said...but for me because it is EASY travel. For other trips where we fly, rent a car, stay in hotels, schelp luggage in and out, look for restaurants, get lost, etc., I say I would rather be cruising!!! Have a nice Thanksgiving! wizard-of-roz Posted November 19, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted November 19, 2012 Carole, thank you so much. We had a wonderful cruise too. We met some of the nicest people we have ever cruised with. As a matter of fact we're having Thanksgiving with a family we met onboard who are coming in from Arizona and we're meeting in Coronado to celebrate together. They have two precious little girls who fell in love with Horton and write me and send pictures all the time. It's amazing how many lovely folks I get to meet through my Service Dog. We'll be on this ship again this coming March and I can't wait. Have a joyful, healthy and happy Thanksgiving and holiday season.

PunkiC Posted November 19, 2012 #6 Share Posted November 19, 2012 My daughter once looked at me when I was telling her about dancing on a cruise and said, "It sure seems like you guys have a lot more fun now than you did when we were still at home". Do you think? :p Much as I loved my years of getting up at O'dark thirty and spending the morning standing around in the cold rain watching soccer games, I am truly partial to relaxing in bed on a ship, drinking coffee and eating breakfast delivered by a cheerful room service attendant to my bed. What's not to like?

JimnKaren Posted November 20, 2012 #8 Share Posted November 20, 2012 When my father (with a degree in geography) wanted to vacation when I was young, it was get in the car and drive; stop for every road-side historical marker and stay at a motel. I saw a lot of our country that way. I never did that with my kids; I just put them on an empty boxcar and waited for the police to call and tell me to go get them! Now, for me, there is no other way to vacation. Long cruise or short cruise, it is better than being in the car! Jim

I really hate car travel and even when we have good company and good audio books. I can take airplane trips if they are either very short or in first class, as long as they are taking me to a ship. :)

Jim My DH loves road trips and took me and our two baby daughters across country [the USA] for 5 1/2 months. I didn't complain, it sounded so exciting and it was a true adventure, we went in our motorhome that had no shower, I shouldn't complain it did have a toilet....and, your tale of the boxcar and your kids is the joke of my office this morning.....so funny.....I hope!

wizard-of-roz Posted November 20, 2012 Author #13 Share Posted November 20, 2012 "I am spending your inheritance as I do not want you burdened with outrageous taxes when I die." Oh, yeah! My kids used to hate when I would say this, until they had children of their own and realized there isn't much living one can do if all you do is save for the next generation!!!! :(
panoramaofthepast Posted November 20, 2012 #14 Share Posted November 20, 2012 Cruising allows my husband and me to travel together without killing each other! He's a one-stop traveler, wants to veg and read, while I want to see it all. On a cruise, I can run around to my heart's content, while he reads on the balcony and watches the waves go by. It doesn't get any better than that!

wizard-of-roz Posted November 20, 2012 Author #17 Share Posted November 20, 2012 I love your reasons for cruising. I'm counting down the days until our families first cruise How wonderful! I wish I had done this with my children when they were younger. I did take my grandson cruising and he loved it! Have a super wonderful time and please come back to cruise critic and tell us all about it. No matter how many times we've cruised there's always something new that we can learn from each other.
