jimdalva Posted November 20, 2012 Author #26 Share Posted November 20, 2012 Why tie up bar keeps time with free drinks in the evening when most people are perfectly willing to pay for their alcohol. There are enough complaints on CC about people not being able to get drunk fast enough because the bar tenders are so busy pouring out soda and handing out bottles of water. Add 3000 free drink coupons and see how busy it can be. I would think that Carnival is very aware that people won't use something "FREE" if it is inconvenient. Putting restrictions on time and place for a FREE drink is a win-win for Carnival. I'm not condoning the practice' date=' just relaying the fact that it makes perfect economic sense to me.[/quote'] I do almost all of my drinking on the pool deck during the day, and find the servers spend most of there time pushing drinks, not overwhelmed trying to keep up with taking orders. Even in the evening when my drinking is done for the day most servers are still trying to find customers. And NO I don't think it makes perfect economic sense, It gives a good reason to sail other lines. Sure Ill be back, but I go where I am happy and that changes from time to time. serene56 Posted November 20, 2012 #27 Share Posted November 20, 2012 Some of these posts do bring up a point I have never dealt with. Once a cruise has berthed at the debarkation port do they still serve alcohol at the bars to departing passengers and are there bar servers that morning in the dining room. I've never noticed. Don't think I've ever ordered a bloody mary the last day. Probably never thought about it. there is a bar or two opened-- its a cash bar- you can use a soda card still. there are no servers in the morning time though
Carnival_Brides Posted November 20, 2012 #28 Share Posted November 20, 2012 Ouch...which ship was that?? On the 3 night Glory we had our free drink coupon with the *(standard) breakfast/brunch/lunch disclaimer BUT we had a letter in the cabin that said due to the short cruise we should use them instead from 8-1 pm at the Red Frog Pub or Blue Iquana I used mine at Red Frog since Iquana was never open and there was quite a line up. Lots of others using their free drink coupon overwhelmed the two bartenders but at least I got my free drink haha:D That seems totally unfair if it does not say you can't use it the last day ?? which ship was this, when was it thanks/? I went on the very sudden CTN last month on the Pride and they did NOT make that option available to us. We could only use it at Breakfast or Lunch on our one and only sea day and the bar waiters were swamped and pissy because of it.

That further proves my point let us use them any time and any place and there would be no log jam when they are all redeemed at the same place and time! SMSACE6 Posted November 21, 2012 #30 Share Posted November 21, 2012 I agree with you JimdAlva! It is only just one free drink, so it is not going put Carnival in the poorhouse! They should give that coupon for use anytime and anywhere on the cruise.

So, send a complaint to Carnival or post on their site and let them know how unhappy you are with the FREE coupon they give out.

That will Never happen.
soccersharon Posted November 21, 2012 #34 Share Posted November 21, 2012 I'm beginning to think something is wrong with me. When I hear "free drink" coupon - I think "great!" Can only use it at breakfast or lunch in the MDR? I think: "Great! Good excuse to have a mimosa with breakfast or a long island iced tea with lunch!" The coupon actually got us to visit the MDR for lunch one day last week. What a pleasant experience that was! And we had a free drink to boot! A nice perk for sure. I guess some people just have to whizz on every freakin' thing... ;)

Apparently you like the MDR for breakfast or lunch - the problem is there are people like me who really don't.
tigercat Posted November 21, 2012 #37 Share Posted November 21, 2012 I was upset because I don't drink alcohol so thought I could use it for a virgin drink. Nope. I ended up getting a pop for my daughter as I don't drink pop either. It was just one drink but it would have been nice to have enjoyed it myself. tigercat
ali_ken2004 Posted November 21, 2012 #38 Share Posted November 21, 2012 On the Paradise in September, they had the drinks available to get from the Piano Bar right next door to the MDR during lunch, worked great!,
keystonemama Posted November 21, 2012 #39 Share Posted November 21, 2012 We also enjoyed our drink over lunch in the MDR, but I would think the biggest reason we are getting the drinks there instead of a bar is the tipping aspect. There is no gratuity added to a "free" drink, so that would take away time and $$$ from the "real" bartenders who work their behinds off fo us. IMHO they are doing the right thing in serving it in the MDR. If you were a bartender would you want to give up all those tips? I think not. Plus you can just walk to the MDR and get a drink without having to have lunch and with all the food & liquor we consume, the extra walk to burn up some calories is okay with me. ;) Happy Sailing,
ccruisequeen Posted November 21, 2012 #40 Share Posted November 21, 2012 So on my 3-day cruise (leaving Friday), if I want my virgin mudslide, I will have to either have it for breakfast, or for dessert after lunch on Sunday? I can't order one at the casino bar while waiting for trivia or waiting for a show in the showroom? No wonder the staff is so disorganized! Sure limits your choices and puts a rush on them!
