lemstar Posted November 30, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 30, 2012 We will be in Grand Cayman on January 2nd. I have read there are people at the docks offering stingray tours. Would it be a mistake to wait, and wing it? I would love to disembark as early as possible (I know, tenders), and get to the Stingray sandbar early, as there are like 7 ships in that day. We want to avoid swarms of people. Any thoughts?
bookbabe Posted November 30, 2012 #2 Share Posted November 30, 2012 Seven ships, prime holiday week? Yup, IMO, it would be a mistake to wait.
lemstar Posted December 1, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted December 1, 2012 Why grin? Because it would be a HUGE mistake? Don't you think there will still be people there, offering various tours/trips? We leave 12/30....
bookbabe Posted December 2, 2012 #4 Share Posted December 2, 2012 Yup...huge. With seven ships, most of the popular independent operators will have filled their boats with pre-booked excursions. What will be left are the leftovers, so to speak. In my experience, if you just want a quick cheap excursion, on a jam-packed boat with a larger group and less personal service, that's what you're likely to find available at the dock on a busy day like that. Then again, if you get off the ship really early, you might get lucky...but do you really want to chance it?
lemstar Posted December 2, 2012 Author #5 Share Posted December 2, 2012 Thanks for your reply. An overcrowded trip is what we are trying to avoid. I will try and get on it today--its already a tad late for getting the most popular guys maybe.... Just not sure the best way to see the stingrays and avoid crowds, or is that an oxymoron idea? Thanks for any other tips!!
