1st time in a balcony questions

Recommended Posts

Forgive me, never been on a cruise...

What is special about the "hump?"

First, the view from the balcony is unique because you are extended outward from the rest of the ship. Second, the location is very convenient because you are very close to the stair/elevator lobby. On some ships (Radiance class), the balcony is actually larger than non-hump side facing balconies.

I have had balcony cabins, inside and oceanview. I never felt I could not go back to an inside after having a balcony. We only get a balcony if the price is right. We would sooner cruise more often than spend the money on a balcony or suite. Just our preference. We are not in the cabin that much anyway. But, you will love a balcony.......I do. Love to keep the door open at night too. Love listening to the ocean.:D

Also, while the balcony door is open the AC will be disabled. We love to be able to hear the sound of the ocean, but the cabin can get pretty stuffy especially as the ship gets farther south.

This depends on the ship, but, in our case we usually turn the AC up, since we prefer it warmer anyway.

But I heard stumbling, heavy breathing and gasps of what I thought was pain. It was my moral obligation to ensure a violent crime was not occuring. I promise I deleted the evidence once I realized it was voluntary activity.

Well, ... as long as you promise. Some sights you can NEVER delete.

Peeker beware. ;)

We bring a very short bungee. Clothes, swimsuits are strung through it and then attached to the chair.

Only way the clothes go over is if the chair would go over.

yep - just like the "option" at Orient Beach. The ones you see are never the ones who should, if you know what I mean. Leaves a lasting memory.....

We enjoy our balcony so much that at times my sister and I have actually slept on it when the weather was nice and the sky was full of stars.

We even decided that at times when it is just too windy or hot to enjoy our balcony it would be nice if we could still enjoy the view. So we took our sofa that was against the wall and placed it facing the balcony's window.

Here are two views of the newly arranged sofa!

Doable with the JS (and higher) as there are loungers on the balcony. Unfortunately not the case with categories below that. (There have been exceptions but not available for the most part).

With the smaller balconies no but with a D2 it can be done if you can convince you attendant or the Head of Houskeeping to bring down a lounger from the pool area.

That's making the assumption that people on that side of Orient are there for the pleasure of others. Bad assumption. Us ugly people have as much right to enjoy the beach.

I get it, and to each his own. And I too would fall under the category of the ugly ones - which is why I don't excersize the option. But the post was humorous in its intent.

Well, it's not one of those that you better not peek around the divider ":0 Well, maybe rarely. It is the cabins on the area of the ship that bow out from the side of the ship. Some have oddly shaped balconies, some have larger balconies than normal. Look at the deck plans on some of the newer ships, usually deck 7 through 10 and note the "hump" cabins on them.

Having had lighted cigarettes nearly miss me a couple of times when I've been sunning on my balcony, may I suggest that it's not a great idea to leave clothes out on the balcony.

Unless I missed it can't believe no one else commented on this post.....Lit cigarettes - BIG NO NO - NEVER EVER throw anything - especially lit cigarettes from the ship! Wow - Id have called the desk in a minute - and by the way - I smoke - this would scare the heck out of me and the person doing the throwing could be escorted off the ship!

I was thinking the same thing...rather than tell me not let my stuff dry on my balcony, how about not throwing your cigs off off yours!

What is special about the "hump?"

Hump cabins extend farther out and the view from them are suppose to better than from a regular side balcony. Balconies on either side of the hump can see either from the hump to the back of the ship. Or from the hump to the front of the ship. Hump balconies allow you to see from the front all the way to the back with no obstuction.

Was it a "hump" cabin? That would have been your first clue... :D

---rimshot---

Someone had to say it.

Thank you for the photo of how you turned your sofa in a balcony cabin. Could you please explain the category cabin you were in. We are sailing first time with RCCL on Serenade of Seas, in March ,in E1 cabin, on Deck 8 and wondered whether we'd be able to do the same thing.

Thanks.

Thanks.

We were in a Jr. Suite but have done it when in a Cat D2. If the sitting area is near the balcony all you have to do is drag it away from the wall and have it face the balcony.

We were surprise at how light weight the sofa was.
