"If I were not upon the Seas"

Recommended Posts

Whatever happened to the show called "If I were not upon the Seas", put on by the crew, on some cruise lines. It was a tradition and now I think it must be "defunct". Anyone know anything about this???? (I know I'm showing my age!!!!)

I was on the Carnival Legend the first week of May and the crew put this on. I wasn't at the actual show but saw it on the tv later in the week. Wish I could have seen it in person,it looked so funny!

They did this skit on the Caribbean Princess this year and it was very funny. By the way there is a book by the same name written by a Captain's wife who worked as a hostess on the Celebrity ships for years. I was surprised to read of all the shenanigans that goes on with the crew.

The show is part of the Pub Night performance on Princess ships. I first saw the same skit on a Sitmar ship in 1988. Pub Night, in general, is hilarious! And "If I were not upon the Sea..." adds to the comedy!

Used to be a standard staple on RCI and, from what Mr. PeteLI says, it still is allthough not to successful, it seems:( . I've never seen it on HAL. I guess, they're not into the song;)

Take care and be safe!

If you really want to see this song/skit, just visit virtually any Boy Scout Camp this summer -- it's alive and well, and much more funny when you take into account the unlimited creativity of boys aged 11-18. I think the tune is "This is the Music Concert" -- you can find it that way via Google, or you can search on "If I were not a Boy Scout".

Just returned from the norwegian Dawn sailing 5-29 The cruise directors staff did this on one of the shows. It was really funny especially when CD Colin came out as a ballerina!!!!

I saw it only once and that was on Song of Norway in 95. It was so funny I almost fell out of my chair. I heard it was an old British Army skit that the soldiers would put on during a night of amusement for their mates. We were advised not to tell other passsengers about it before the show if we had seen it before so that it would be a complete surprise for first timers. If it is well done you could enjoy it many times over.

We saw it on our past cruise on the Norwegian Sun, November '04 as well as all past 9 cruises. The CD Colin Kerr did the ballerina part on this last time ...he was a riot. Hope its will be repeated on the Jewel.

Thank you SO much for starting this post!! It is so coincidental that just the other night I was thinking about the "If I Were Not Upon The Sea...." skit. I was wracking my brain trying to remember where I knew this from and what the lines were. Thanks to this post, not only do I know the lines, but I remember where I heard this. I first time I saw the skit was during my cruises on Royal Viking Line as a little kid. I think the last time I saw it was in 1993 on the Royal Viking Sun. It was always my favorite part of the entertainment from those cruises. Thanks for helping me recall this!!

It is still alive and well on the Conquest. Just saw it again for the umpteenth time this past week. The Conquest cruise staff does one of the better renditions that we've seen. They also do a hilarious R-rated skit on the last night based on "Who's Line Is It Anyway".

I used to be a an ACD for NCL. It started in the early 80's on NCL and now has travelled to other Cruise Lines as NCL crew members have switched companies through out the years. It was developed by a comedian that used to headline on NCL. It normally was performed at the conclusion of the very popular Roaring 20's show which was also done by the crewmembers. From time to time it would get pulled from the show because of complaints that were on the Comment Cards saying it was inappropriate. (See we really do read them :) ). I am glad to hear that it is alive and well. It was just as fun if not more fun performing it. Well that was when I was the Casino Dealer and not the Lighthouse Keeper. :)

I saw it on Celebrity my first, second and third cruise on the Horizon. It was undoubtly the funniest thing I have ever seen. I believe I have it on Video somewhere. It's too bad its not around, its one show that I wouldn;t mind seeing again and again. :D
