British Colonial Hilton - Pics and Menu

We were here last week with our 4 Year old and loved it! The 80 dollar voucher we received for the two adults was sufficient to feed the three of us for lunch plus a few fruity drinks for the adults

Our ship (Disney Magic) arrived around 9 am so we were at the Hilton by 10:30. We stayed until about 4. We didn't book in advance and just walked into the hotel to pay.

It was the most relaxing time I had on the cruise and would totally go back again! All the staff were super friendly and treated my 4 yr old DD (who was the only kid around that day) like a princess

Hi all,

Could anyone (i.e. Scubagirl :)) speak to the availability of passes mid-day? Our ship gets in around noon on a Saturday in March. We are 2 couples. I am a bit worried that the Hilton or Melia might be sold out. Any tips? Ease my fears? Alternatives? Thanks for any and all help.

Sorry, but I can't ease your fears.. it's the height of spring break and a weekend. Hilton usually has several "events" and wedding going on during the weekend, so it would be hit or miss.

I'd look into pre purchasing your pass if this is your first choice.

As for Melia.. the grounds and beach are pretty big and can usually handle the crowds.. but again. No guarantee. The thing with Melia is that it's next door to the Wyndham, so you can always go there if there sold out.

Personally, I wouldn't want to be on a property that was sold out or restricted. Too crowded.

Wow! That was fast. Thanks!! So, I know I have the option with both of these to buy passes in advance, but it would stink to lose $ if it is raining. . . Any other suggestions?

It would still stink losing the money but at least for the BCH booked through Island Marketing only 20% is due to reserve and the balance due check-in. If you reserve and choose not to go you're only out the 20% rather than the 100%.

But this is from my recent reservation:

A 20% Deposit is required in order to secure your reservation (fully refunded in case of inclement weather cancellations or Ships not calling Port, please refer to our Terms of Reservation by visiting our website http://www.bahamascruiseexcursions.com/Terms.htm) The balance due at time of excursion when you check in for your day pass is by CREDIT CARD ONLY.

It costs $20 more to book this in advance. Doesn't make sense to me.

It shouldn't cost any more too book in advance? We booked in advance and put money down and then the rest was owed at time of check in....

We used Island Marketing..$60 per adult 13 & over...

Great deal! We had a wonderful day....

I believe Scubagirrl was referring to Melia. The BCH is, I believe, cheaper to book in advance through Island Marketing.

Just for the record.. Island marketing has a rain cancellation policy. You will get your deposit back if it rains (and I think this includes if the ship skips the port as well).

Of all the third party vendors, they are the only ones that I know do this without a problem. I haven't used any of the others nor have any of my friends, so I can't speak to that. These vendors pop up all the time. Here one day gone the next.

As far as Melia goes, this is their 1st season in the bahamas, They opened 10 weeks ago. Noone knows how they handle spring break and overbooking. We will all have to wait and see. Management makes decisions based on daily occupancy and events.

Personally, I booked in advance with Resort for a Day for the peace of mind. I am not interested in gettting to the front desk of the resort and being turned away. We are only in Nassau for one day, so it is worthwhile to me to pay a little more in advance to secure my spot at the resort.

I don't think Resort for a day is more expensive, (I think it's actually $5 cheaper). I was referring to the other vendor that was mentioned, who added significantly to the price of the day pass.

I just wanted to say *thank you* to all the posters on this thread! After reading through all of the great questions and comments, I think the BCH is exactly what I want for the cruise in December. :D

Scubagirrl -- we're not cruising this time but flying into Nassau -- Church mission trip to Eleuthera. We need to stay overnight in Nassau before flying out the next morning to the destination. I have been checking online for hotels (we have 22 people and will need at least 6 rooms) -- do you know if they are just not booking for December yet or if this is a popular time and we will end up sleeping at the airport?

Can you recommend an inexpensive/safe hotel for one night? Don't need near the beach, just clean and safe.

Word of advice, I'd hold off on reserving and make sure that I like the place before I put $60 a person down. The Hilton does offer convenience because of location and its relaxing but I found it "too close" to the ships, the food options are limited and overpriced as are the drinks.

If time allows you, take the jitney to the Sheraton and get that "open water" feel, away from the ships. They have live music playing, swim up bar . . . I just found it to be a better experience and the jitney's are always fun. Much more of a "vacation vibe" than I got at the Hilton . . . and I spent less money overall as a group, and that included food/drinks at the Sheraton, drinks at the Daq Shack across from the Sheraton and a stop at the Fish Fry where I had 6 huge conch fritters and a Kalik for $6.

Hi there

Saw your thread regarding nasauu Bahamas! We are doing two cruises b2b and our first stop is nasau bahamas! We are coming by cruise at 8;00 am and leaves at midnight! Does it get dark early there?

So we want to see atlantis but heard you hv to pay to even see the Lobby now lol I just want to to take pictures walk around and then we were deciding between Hilton or the Melia which was sheraton! Pi know from the Puer u saud I sgoukd take jitney bus is that close to the Port? Por take a taxi from Atlantis to Melia?

I saw that you think Melia/sheraton is better! It's 30.00 day pass but we do want to go to fish fry for conge fritters and conge salad and of course kalik beer! Then back to ship! Would like to see the queens staurs but not sure for time I don't want to travel in dark that's all unless we are with out get couples from the ship!

Any advice would be appreciated! We are in west palm beach March 5 visiting our cousins tgen on March 9 they are driving us to Miami to our rccl bahama cruise then we are back in the 13 staying day and night to miami then March 14 to the 21 on celebrity reflection can't wait!

We live in Vancouver bc so lots rain we need sun lol

Thank you for your help! I usually don't take buses but if I'm directed to the right area and don't get lost we should be good my husband and I! We are 48 and 50 years old but young at heart lol love relaxing and love life!

Thx again

Liliana

Plan to go to Melia during the day for the beach. You can take a cab there easily. The jitney bus stops right in front of it but I don't know the number. Melia has chairs and umbrellas on the beach. Also snorkeling equipment if you pay the $30.

Go to Atlantis at night. Cab is like $5 per person each way. You can get into the lobby for free after 5 pm when the other ships leave. You can also walk through the aquarium for free then ($40 pp during the day). The casino has lovely glass sculptures to see and the place is lit up very pretty. We always do this.

You can get conch fritters right by the ship in the pier building. You might be able to get them at Melia restaurants as well. You may not have time to go to fish fry. It is an area of local restaurants.

The queens staircase is small and the area is not safe to walk there. You won't have time for everything. And the pictures of this look better then the real thing. I would skip this.

Melia does have conch fritters. We ordered them at the pool bar when we were there - yummy.
