The definitive Cheers program Thread

If I recall correctly, the match play is stamped onto your receipt and you then show it at the casino for your 5 dollar match, but the stamps were only given out for certain drinks, like the classic cocktail list and only given out at certain bars at specific times. I think it was in the comedy club at night and maybe some other times as well, but it would not make sense for them to do it at the pool bar in the heat of the day when people are drinking the most.

It's not advertised and its different from the match play stamp i have received at the comedy club in the past. Every bartender knew about it but said nothing about it unless they were asked

If you can find a bar menu there is a section called classic cocktails. There are 6 of them. Long Island iced tea, sex on the beach, cruiser, Mai tai, mojito, and i can't remember the last

Thanks!!!

Wife and I went on a 7 day on the magic and she was pregnat and I got the cheers program and they didnt make us pay for her

Oh holy cow, this one is going to stir the pot! I'm one that doesn't have any issues with the "everyone over 21 must purchase, no exception..." rule, but there are lots of others on this board that think there should be exceptions and this will open a can of worms...here we go :p.

I just finished a breeze cruise and did the cheers program and it was almost free, well if you are a casino patron. Any of the 6 classic cocktails give you a $5.00 match play, even when using cheers. So 6 or 7 Long Islands and 3 or 4 cruisers equaled out to 50-60 in match play every day. So I think between winning and losing on the match plays cheers cost me about 20 a day. I'm fine with that price

It worked out pretty good for me too on the Freedom. However, I saved all of my receipts and traded in all of my "Classic" receipts on the last night. I even had a few of the $5 match play left from a previous cruise and used them. I played for a while and came out about $100 ahead after using all the match coupons so that paid for 2 days of Cheers :).

Wow that is a change from everything that has been said and done in the past. Carnival's policy on this is so strict you cannot even bring a doctors note saying due to medical conditions or the type of medications you are taking prevents you from dinking alcohol. And if you read other posts on this thread there were several that talked about pregnancy and it was all or none which John Heald confirmed on his blog several times.. Please upload a copy of your receipt if you have it as it may help others. As for us we are both getting the program so it wont matter.

So you were able to use your Cheers receipt for a classic cocktail to get a match play. Another thread running currently had a cruiser being told that since the receipt was zero'd out it didn't qualify for the match play coupon.

I see posts that the specialty coffees are included if you have a shot mixed in, so how are you ordering that, from the waiter or bartender or from the specialty coffee booths? What about the MDR, can you order the spiked coffee there too?

On the Freedom (several months ago), they wouldn't allow me to get spiked coffees. I could get them and the shot was included in Cheers but I would have had to pay for the coffee. I just got the shot and used my Starbucks Via's :).

I was able to on breeze but I was told the inclusion of zero'd receipts is up to the casino manager so it can vary ship to ship

Hello Everyone,

We go on the Breeze (Western Caribbean) on October 20th....can't come soon enough. I have a few questions related to Match play, that I did not see asked directly yet.

1. If my wife and I are not going to purchase the Cheers Program, is there a Max on the number of Match Plays you can get from ordering off of the 6 cocktails menu? Meaning, if I have 10 cocktails from the "Match play cocktails menu" during the day, can I then take those 10 receipts to the Casino at night and get $5 for each receipt, which totals $50 in chips or whatever to gamble with?

2. If my Wife also orders from the "Match play 6 cocktails menu" and it goes on the same receipt as my order from the same menu, does that mean we get $10 in Match Play or does it need to be separate receipts?

Thanks in advance, it's been 10 years since we cruised due to having our two great children so I'm just trying to catch up on all the new stuff prior to boarding.

-Dean

From my experience (on the Freedom & Splendor), there is no limit as to how many $5 match play coupons you can get. I was also able to get 2 when DH's and my drinks were on the same receipt.

  • 2 weeks later...

We are cruising on the Valor in October out of San Juan. Can anyone tell us how much the tax would be if we purchased the program on day 1? Is there a certain time that we are allowed to start using the program if our ship doesn't sail until 10:00 p.m.? Just wondering if anyone has used the program on the Valor? We are having a hard time deciding as it is a port intensive cruise so we keep going back and forth trying to choose! Love the idea of saving extra beers for our room or to take to the beach:)! Thanks for all the information, it really is helpful!

The only tax involved would be on any drinks that you consume from the time you purchase the program on day one until the time that the ship hits international waters. Since it does not sail until 10:00 PM, and will not hit international water till after midnight, the majority if not all of your drinks on day one will be taxed at the prevailing rate. You can always wait until you board and if need be, buy as you go on the first day and then sign up on day two for the program. Day two starts the following morning, not at 12:01 AM.

The tax on drinks is per drink and has nothing to do with the cheers program. You are taxed for each drink whether you have the program, or you just purchase your drinks individually. The taxes should have no bearing on whether you get the cheers program on not, as you pay the same tax either way

So, I understand that once you get to 15 drinks a day on the Cheers program, you are cut off. I also read the bartender gives you a "count down" usually when you're in the double digit number range. That being said, is it possible to pay/purchase drinks when you reach 13 or 14 on the Cheers program and not have them count against your 15 daily allotment? If so, do you still get the 25% discount on those drink prices?

Thanks!

Purchasing drinks before you reach 15 is a great question.. The answer is probably sometimes.. I have seen people comment that you can.. I have also seen comments that you cant.. You do not get the 25% off if you purchase drinks but some people have been able to purchase them. My adivse would be to tell the bartender you want to buy a fellow pasanger a drink, and you want to be charged, I believe most will sell you the drink and not count toward you 15. However, there have been conflicting posts on this...

Do my boyfriend and I need to have separate spending/sign and sail accounts to each purchase the Cheers program? Right now I just opened one main account, that we will open with cash, but it just occurred to me maybe we have to do 2 separate accounts to each purchase the program? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

You don't need separate S & S accounts. They will ask you when you purchase if it is on one account. As long as you both have charging privileges on the one acct, that is all they need :).
