The definitive Cheers program Thread

Some people, me included, are fine with only one cruise line. If you want to expand your horizons with other cruise lines, that's fine to. But I've done mock bookings on other cruise lines, and more often than not, even with the cheers, carnival is still cheaper. We don't know if the above posters cruise was 7 days, might have been less. They also said the travel costs were more to a different port. You have to look at it all.

GO MIZZOU!!!!!!!

You are only focussing on the cost upfront. You are completely ignoring VALUE / what you get for your money.

No I am not ignoring anything. I'm not saying another line might not have better value for the money. But if I'm happy with I'm getting for my money, why should I switch ? The Waldorf Astoria has better value for the money, do you stay there ?

They poster said that travel costs were cheaper from Boston to either Tampa or Orlando than flying to Miami. If you cruise on Celebrity and leave from either Miami or Ft Lauderdale, all you need to do is fly from the Boston area to Ft Lauderdale on Southwest and your fare will be cheap and bags will fly for free.

And the wife will be platinum after next cruise. I would bet that we would try another line sooner or later, but, there is a level of familiarity and port access costs that change the game.

And, Actually, the equivalent non-obstructed balcony room is 1159 pp vs 749 which is a proie difference of the bev pkg, but celebrity allows 5$ beers and 8 dollar wines and mixed drinks

Port access costs on Southwest should be about the same if you're flying into Tampa or Orlando to cruise on Carnival or if you're flying into Ft Lauderdale to cruise on Celebrity out of either Miami or Ft Lauderdale. Also, the premium package on Celebrity covers beer, wine and mixed drinks up to 12.00 and it also includes premium coffees, fresh squeezed juices and San Pellegrino.

I did the Cheers package on the Breeze in January and also the Premium package on the Summit in October. There was no comparison between the two when it came to value.

True, but we don't want to go to Haiti, and we smoke
Don't knock Labadee....it's a great relaxing day and a better beach than Grand Turk. But, if you do want to smoke on your balcony and infringe upon the rights of non smokers in adjoining balconies, then stick with what you know and stay on Carnival.

Well I'm not running his travel plans for him, if he says what he is doing is cheaper I'm taking his word for it. But I'm talking about any cruise, you have to take everything into consideration.

We are frequent flyers on US air - we don't like southwest that much. And, despite your snarky comment, the smoking policy on Celebrity is too restrictive for our liking - when you are travelling at 20 knots and smoking, I don't think the adjoining balcony are going to get smoked out if, by chance they are out there the same 7 minutes we are. It's also the casino and some of the bars we like to smoke at sorry to offend. Also, our ports of call do not include Grand turk or Haiti.

Actually, smoking on an adjacent balcony is bothersome - so don't fool yourself that you aren't inflicting your habit on a neighbor.

We pretty much live on our balcony ensuring that we will be there those same 7 minutes.

Sorry if this already been answered don't want to go thru 48 pages. I like fruity drinks like pina colidas and miami vices. Would that be covered under the cheers program?
Just to let you know, at the top of each thread page there is a "search this thread button". All you need to do is put in some keys words like pina colada and all posts in the thread will appear that have the magic words in them. Since all alcoholic drinks under 10.00 are covered by the Cheers program with the exception of specialty stuff like floaters, then yes, the two frozen drinks you mentioned as well as any other frozen drink concoction will be covered by the program since they are under 10 bucks. You can have 15 of them over the course of the day.

Just to remind you, you were the one that mentioned Haiti, so that is why I said not to knock Labadee. Sorry that you don't like Southwest, bags are free and their customer service has won many more accolades nationwide than UsAir. My comment regarding smokers infringing upon the rights of non smokers was not snarky at all. It reminds me of the great quote from Steve Martin about 30 years ago....."Do you mind if I smoke....nooo, do you mind if I fart?".

We have flown southwest and will again, but we get free checked bags on USAir and assigned seating.

I'm sure labadee is fine, but when I compare the celebrity cruise intinerary to the carnival cruise on the same week, Carnival's, IMO, is better, Haiti being a pity stop, like grand turk or HMC.

I refuse to fly Southwest. To me th ey are the Wal-Marts of flying.

Lol, now Southwest is like Walmart

Carnival has been compared to WalMart by the loyal Royals for years over on their boards, so it's funny that now SW is getting the same bashing on the Carnival boards. Both equal value, IMHO.

Since you have only cruised a few times, you're obviously looking at the ports as being more important than the ship. Many veteran cruisers, but of course not all, tend to lean towards the ship being the destination instead of the ports. When you have cruised the Caribbean 20 times as my next one will be, you only look forward to the occasional new port and the ship itself becomes the destination.

Carnival is the WalMart of the Seas, SW / Frontier et al are the Wal-Mart of the skies. I have never sailed RCCL but I plan to soon.

Then you might want to go to a Spa balcony or another Cruise line that has restricted smoking. Smokers have less options then non smokers.

  • 4 weeks later...

I did it a couple of times, but not all in their face. I at least tried to be sneaky so they wouldn't get in trouble. You have to wait 5 minutes between ordering so I'd get drinks at different bars. I only did it like 3 times though. When I knew I wasn't going to hit my limit and had friends we met on board who weren't on the Cheers program, but had been buying their own drinks all along. The bartenders would give us free samples also and twice my husband hit his limit, but I did not so they served him off my tab for a drink or two. The computers are strict, but the employees were cool, especially if you tossed them a buck or two extra for a tip every now and then.

Actually, the ship is more important than the destination on our next cruise - we have been to all of the ports before, just not on a cruise. We happen to like Carnival and the lack of pretentiousness.
