Relaxing1 Posted March 2, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 2, 2013 I have been on 3 HAL cruises (the last being on the Ryndam in December 2012) and the espresso and cappuccino has been complimentary in the MDR. Has this policy changed?
RuthC Posted March 2, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 2, 2013 There were reports of a charge for specialty coffees in the dining room just around that time. I was on the Veendam in January, and there was no charge. There also haven't been any reports of a charge since that initial flurry. I suspect the charge was quickly reversed after the hew & cry that was posted here.
tjcox9 Posted March 2, 2013 #3 Share Posted March 2, 2013 Likewise, on the Zaandam in January, there was no charge. I specifically asked the waiter, and he said "not yet" :( but he was certainly aware they were charging on other ships. No further information was offered. Mekka Posted March 2, 2013 #4 Share Posted March 2, 2013 On our Zaandam voyage in January, there was some confusion about this. At our first meal in the MDR, we were told that there was a charge for capuccino. When we asked to steward to check to be sure, he came back and said it would be free. It appeared to be an aborted attempt to start charging, but apparently it didn't pan out.
alwaysfrantic Posted March 2, 2013 #5 Share Posted March 2, 2013 It was listed on the dinner menu for a few dollars on Zuiderdam last month.

innlady1 Posted March 3, 2013 #13 Share Posted March 3, 2013 Perhaps just the smaller ships are not charging  We were not charged on our recent 21 day Ryndam cruise (1/27-2/17).

sail7seas Posted March 3, 2013 #16 Share Posted March 3, 2013 December to be exact but I get your point. :) I'll write to friends on the ship and ask if they are now charging.

sail7seas Posted March 3, 2013 #19 Share Posted March 3, 2013 Sailed the Eurodam 2/16 and was discouraged to see that coffees were an extra charge! ALL coffee was extra charge or espesso and cappaccino? They weren't charging for a regular cup of coffee or decaf, were they?

Ray in NH Posted March 3, 2013 #21 Share Posted March 3, 2013 We were on the Maasdam's 14 nt Holiday cruise and they were charging for specialty coffees in MDR. Waiter said the change had just started a couple of cruises prior. Ray in NH

The picture that I posted of a dinner menu shows that cappuccino and espresso was extra, regular coffee and tea had no charge,

sail7seas Posted March 4, 2013 #25 Share Posted March 4, 2013 Doesn't seem to be consistent. I know DH didn't pay for espresso on Westerdam in December but it may have changed now. Ship to ship, it might be vary?
