NYcruzzer Posted March 14, 2013 #3 Share Posted March 14, 2013 We always like to start our cruise with a nice relaxing lunch in the MDR. Beats the maddening crowds at the Buffet everytime. Enjoy our cruise.
Cruisin&Relaxin Posted March 14, 2013 #4 Share Posted March 14, 2013 Buffet, MDR, Blue lagon? If you are in a suite, not a min-suite, then go have a relaxing lunch up at Cagney's.

trvl_fanatic Posted March 14, 2013 #7 Share Posted March 14, 2013 definitely the MDR ... always a pain to walk around btwn tables/crowds with luggage we tried the MDR upon embarking the last time on the Gem, and it was the best way to start off our vacay :)
Hockey19 Posted March 14, 2013 #8 Share Posted March 14, 2013 MDR if suite life was not happening Cagney's when life is very good. We like the buffet food but can't deal with the seating nightmare. It's like one huge game of musical chairs. No patience for that.
johnql Posted March 14, 2013 #9 Share Posted March 14, 2013 Another vote for the MDR - a nice, relaxing lunch with wait service. No need to deal with the potential chaos of the buffet. Cagney's if you're in a suite.
msmoger Posted March 14, 2013 #10 Share Posted March 14, 2013 Which of the two MDRs on the Jewel will be open for lunch? Thanks,
pyrrhus Posted March 14, 2013 #11 Share Posted March 14, 2013 I personally prefer to eat lunch in the port town and board later in the day when my cabin is ready so I can avoid all crowds until it is time to set sail. Ok, not entirely true, I do have to grab an ice cream cone pretty quickly. I love that cheap soft serve.
shepherdqueen Posted March 14, 2013 #12 Share Posted March 14, 2013 We always like to start our cruise with a nice relaxing lunch in the MDR. Beats the maddening crowds at the Buffet everytime. johnql Posted March 14, 2013 #13 Share Posted March 14, 2013 Which of the two MDRs on the Jewel will be open for lunch? Thanks, Usually, it's the larger MDR. On the Jewel, that would be Tsar's Palace, Deck 6 Aft.
kikki21 Posted March 14, 2013 #14 Share Posted March 14, 2013 It used to be the buffet, mad person that I am lol! I will go to the MDR on the Jade and begin the holiday in some style I hope! :)
flcruiser1969 Posted March 14, 2013 #15 Share Posted March 14, 2013 I prefer on deck by the pool. Either grab buffet from inside or burger from outside. I like the craziness and enjoy some sun and music.

jdkirkp Posted March 14, 2013 #18 Share Posted March 14, 2013 Cagneys's will serve their normal suite-only lunch menu on embarkation. I just saw the menu a few days ago on the board. If you search for it I am sure it will be easy to find.
johnql Posted March 14, 2013 #19 Share Posted March 14, 2013 Can you tell me what Cagney's serves for embarkation day?:D Here's the lunch menu from my Jewel sailing in Nov 2012. Not sure if it has changed since.
BEACHBARB Posted March 14, 2013 #20 Share Posted March 14, 2013 Another vote for MDR. If they have the portabella mushroom with goat cheese starter you have to try it - it's a dream!!!!! I could eat that every day. And a very good cob salad too.

ambersfamily Posted March 15, 2013 #23 Share Posted March 15, 2013 Hi. We are recently off the Epic and had lunch in the MDR - Taste. No crowds! The cruise stated out excellent when the boys loved their burgers and Ceasar Salad with Shrimp. Those shrimp were excellent. They liked it so much a few hours later they went back again:)
Day91 Posted March 15, 2013 #24 Share Posted March 15, 2013 I think we CCers are sometimes just lemmings of a smaller subspecies, and this "MDR upon embarkation" shuffle might be Exhibit A. Sure it's quieter and less crowded, but we don't necessarily cruise for those operands, do we? I'm sometimes sitting down there, wishing I were part of the hustle and bustle. And alternatively.... If you're on a Jewel-class ship on a reasonably nice day in reasonably good time, you should really be heading to the Great Outdoors with a plate or two of a great array of food. The newbies take a long time to discover this world, and the ultimate cruise atmosphere back there blows away the somewhat stuffy, strangely backlit midday world of the MDR (my opinion only of course).
