Breakaway Plus

When we were on Epic last Oct there was a mention that the new Breakaway + may be deployed to sail in Asia.

When I mentioned that to the cruise consultant she said they were talking about it and nothing has been decided yet. She added that there are a lot of Asian millionaires and gamblers.

If this is to happen I would suggest NCL names the new ship Norwegian Faraway ;)

One officer told us NCL may keep Epic in Europe year around in the future.

Nothing is set in stone yet. So we wait and see.

I hope they don't send the new ship to Asia.

I would love to see it in florida if it had some unique itineraries Like a mixture of 7 10 and 14 day cruises . The Getaway offers no options so some variety would be great !!

Another thank you to time2cruise1. Excellent insights to share about the Jade. It helps explains why it is so inexpensive in Europe. Makes me want to book the Jade as soon as possible before they move it elsewhere.

  • 1 month later...

as the ships move around its hard to return to that ship if you loved the cruise on past trip

we did once take the Star on the same cruise two years running but with the jade pressed to fill cabins we could pass up a SF cabin for $210 pp aft deck 10

this is the best aft deck on any room we have had will total relax on this long trip

We love NCL and they treat us right each time

What I can tell you is the Breakaway Plus will have a covered Haven like the Breakaway. Making me think it is headed to a cooler home port. The Getaway will not be covered since it is headed to Miami.

All of this talk about the Jade has me wondering... doesn't she still have a lot of her Hawaiian decor? I know she did for a long time. If so, she could be repo'd back to Hawaii at any time, really. (Maybe when Epic comes over?)

The new name is official. The Oneaway. We all decided that in the casino with every hand one card away from winning here on the Breakaway. There will be a casino on every deck and dealers available to take your money in your cabin :D

Back at the end of February/ beginning of March Sun Cruise, Mr. Sheehan was on the ship taking it to Cartegena. He came to our M&G. Someone asked him about the Asian Market. He said that Norwegian's fleet is still on the smaller side, so they really were not looking at this market yet. Maybe someday. He also indicated that NCL's sister company Star Cruises is based there for those that want to cruise that market.

He told us he was meeting with the President of Columbia and I don't remember if he said they were discussing port options or if those of us at the M&G just assummed that. Not sure of his words.

So maybe there will be some South America itineraries. Just my guess

I can see the ship replacing the Gem in NYC, I don't think she'll be going to Alaska because she is too wide for the Panama Canal.

I doubt that NCL would have the Breakaway and a Breakaway Plus class, both out of New York at the same time....

Since the Breakaway is themed around New York, she should be the featured ship here for years to come. But not forever....the Dawn also was themed around New York, or at least her hull art is, and she served here for many happy years before moving on to Boston.

As far as transiting the Canal...I believe the new, larger canal is due to open sometime next year, allowing almost any size ship....

Personally, I would love to see one of the smaller ships homeport in Baltimore:D!!

The Epic could go to Europe full time and the Breakaway Plus could go to Miami, where it could directly compete with the megaships from another line (whose name I won't mention:p) and visit the Caribbean ports that can easily handle such a large ship.

Like others I would love to see prices come down in Hawaii, so I would like to see another ship there, but I'm not sure NCL would agree. Lol. I would also like to see new markets in Europe, e.g. British Isles in the summer.

Market estimates will determine the location, but it's great fun to guess!!

I have just got off the Star, and according to the officers there (one who I knew well from the EPIC and had just transferred to the star following staff movements to Breakaway) they were asked at a Q&A session about NCL and future cruises to south pacific and Asia, and the response was at present NCL had no intentions of sailing in either of those locations... so who knows where Breakaway plus will end up.

I would love a summer cruise itinerary from the UK.... but alas I very much doubt NCL would send a new ship this way. I imagine it will homeport somewhere in the US.
