Newbie needing help in Copenhagen

Recommended Posts

Hi all, we will be cruising May 31st on Holland Eurodam. I've been on cruises before but this is my first time leaving from another country instead of the us.

Does anyone have any helpful tips for us?

Suggestions for hotels (under $240)?

Does anyone know where the port is for Holland (I understand there are three ports here)?

Sights to see? (We will be with our 1 year old, but he's very good so he shouldn't be a problem)

We are extremely new to this portion of Europe, we were in south Europe 2 years ago for 3-4 weeks. So this is all new and a bit overwhelming. We are hoping to stay in Copenhagen 2-3 nights before the cruise to enjoy the beautiful city.

Thanks!

I did check at Copenhagen Poprt web - link - put no infor for May 31 yet

There are three port locations - but all in the same area North of Copenhagen:

Copenhagen Freeport, Langelinie, Nordre Toldbod.

I'll recommend at hotel in City center - and then take taxi/train to the ship

Hotels - I normally use Scandic - link to Scandic Copenhagen

For things to see: Shopping area at Strøget, Royal Palace and the Guard Change, Tivoli Gardens, Christiana (famous freetown of Copenhagen), Castles of North Zealand (Frederiksborg Castle in Hilleroed ), Canal Tour and Nyhavn, Open Air History Museum, LouisianaMuseum of Art.

You need to look at this thread, it has wonderful information on Copenhagen and CC member Danish Viking who lives in Copenhagen answers questions there.

We are also sailing from Copenhagen for the first time in May and I have found wonderful information there.

Actually, the list has been posted under cruise ships: http://www.cmport.com/ships-in-port/cruise-ships/~/media/docs/business%204/cruise%20passenger%20information/cruise%20calls%2020132014_march%207th%202013.ashx

The Eurodam will be at C254- Freeport -that day.

Definitely check out the Wonderful Copenhagen thread. I find it very useful in answering all of my questions. My husband and I are booked at The Square hotel which is near Tivoli and City Hall. I believe it is under the $250/night you were looking at. I booked straight with the hotel and received free breakfast during our stay.

As far as what to do check out the Copenhagen.com website it is super useful. You will probably want to buy the Copenhagen Card for transportation and sight seeing. I'm still working on my touring plan (which is at home right now) so I will post that later.

I think Thursday we're planning on doing Stroget, Nyhavn, and possibly a canal tour.

Friday - The Little Mermaid statue, the fountain (forgot name), Rosenborg & Amelienborg to see guard change, see the crown jewels collection, Tivoli at night.

Saturday - drawing a blank for the morning then the cruise ship that afternoon
