delily Posted March 24, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 24, 2013 On another post I saw someone talking about keeping their cruise card in a bathing suit pocket. Does Norwegian give you one of those clippy things to wear around your neck? It never occured to me that all cruise lines might not provide these. DorothyB Posted March 24, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 24, 2013 Neither Norwegian or Carnival provide lanyards. You can bring your own. Some prefer the kind that have the plastic "card holder" attached. I just bring a regular lanyard and have a hole punched in the corner of my card. If I have my wristlet with me, I put it there. If I don't, I wear my lanyard. I bought Vera Wang lanyards for myself and my daughters on eBay & got a good deal. umpy10 Posted March 24, 2013 #4 Share Posted March 24, 2013 Lanyards are for sale in the gift shop, at least on the Sun they were and they even punched a hole in our card to use with the lanyard. cheers...the Ump...:D
shelly11 Posted March 24, 2013 #5 Share Posted March 24, 2013 I have a lanyard. The service desk will punch a hole in the card for you. I either wear it, put the whole thing in my pocket or put it in my backpack when off the ship. Lanyards are cheaper online at many places. Everyone in our family has one with a design of a band they like.
CapeCodCruiser Posted March 24, 2013 #6 Share Posted March 24, 2013 If I am not carrying a bag of some sort it gets slipped in my bra or bathing suit top - very handy!
luvcruzing Posted March 24, 2013 #7 Share Posted March 24, 2013 Lanyards can be purchased at Walmart in the jewelry department.
Moondawgie Posted March 24, 2013 #8 Share Posted March 24, 2013 I have various kinds of lanyards - however, my old stand by is the long coil thing they give out in casinos that has a clip at one end and ring at the other - I get the front desk to punch a hole and attach it to the end with the ring and clip the other end to something I am wearing. Then put the card in a pocket or something. Very handy!:D
shepherdqueen Posted March 24, 2013 #9 Share Posted March 24, 2013 I have a friend who makes jewelry and she made me a lovely chain with a key chain end. I can clip on charms and attach my key card. It worked great and I can't wait to use it again. :D

Carrying money, card, etc. inside the bra is what my Grandmother called "God's Pocket." Great place to carry the card and that is where I keep mine! (Although it can provide an interesting shape when under a t-shirt!)
NLH Arizona Posted March 24, 2013 #13 Share Posted March 24, 2013 I use this, it is like having a pretty purse in my bra!!! Just the right size for my card and some cash!
swedish weave Posted March 24, 2013 #14 Share Posted March 24, 2013 You can purchase these or bring your own. Have never seen a cruise line give out for free other than one or two that my children received from the kid's programs. I have gotten lanyards from the casino without charge on both NCL and Princess. Don't know if NCL still has them, but Princess gave me one just last month. They are the coiled plastic type, and clip onto a belt loop or buttonhole.

mfinster007 Posted March 24, 2013 #16 Share Posted March 24, 2013 Personally I'm not a lanyard wearer, never have never will. I put my card in my pocket, in a purse, in the zippered compartment of a tote bag, sock, etc. My DD+17 has been traveling on cruises for 10 years and has held her own and never lost one. It's a personal preference.
Laszlo Posted March 24, 2013 #17 Share Posted March 24, 2013 When we went on our 1st cruise I lost my card within 2 hours of boarding the ship:eek: From then on my wife and I both wear ours on a lanyard.
swedish weave Posted March 24, 2013 #18 Share Posted March 24, 2013 To see the value of a lanyard, look at the box of cards at the casino desk that have been left in the machines !! I always have mine on a lanyard !!!
cruzincurt Posted March 24, 2013 #19 Share Posted March 24, 2013 Recently off the EPIC, no free lanyards available but the Casino service desk did have a small linked chain to tie your drink card to the casino player card. I also delivered some player cards to the casino service desk that were left in the machines.
delily Posted March 24, 2013 Author #20 Share Posted March 24, 2013 I guess I will bring my own then. My husband and I each have ours from our RCCL cruise a few years ago. They passed them out at boarding with cruise cards attached. I think they're just plain blue. I mean, I wouldn't want to walk around wearing an RCCL logo! InkedButterfly Posted March 24, 2013 #21 Share Posted March 24, 2013 I wear a lanyard at work, so there is NO WAY I will be wearing one on my vacation! That said, I'll probably just be carrying around a wristlet. DH will keep his in his wallet. It's all personal preference :)
lgfromdg Posted March 24, 2013 #22 Share Posted March 24, 2013 Not all my pants have pockets and I don't like carrying a purse around the ship so I always have something hanging from my neck (not fashionable but practical) One of my Cruise Critic friends just sent me a pink Coach ID holder with matching lanyard; I'll be wearing it on my next cruise. I recently bought myself an ID pouch with matching lanyard on Etsy. The one I saw I a bit too big, but the seller custom-made mine to the since I wanted. The pouch has a clear ID holder on the outside that snapped shut and a small zippered compartment for something small like my Blistex.
Mysticks1 Posted March 24, 2013 #23 Share Posted March 24, 2013 I use the lanyard with the plastic waterproof case (water safe). I can also store my receipts for drinks, purchases in it and can carry my ID and a little cash in it as well. I bought mine from eBay years ago but they can also be found on Amazon at reasonable prices. I have used the same one on 5 cruises and it still works fine. huh Posted March 25, 2013 #25 Share Posted March 25, 2013 I have various laynards I use for work but the one I always bring on a cruise is one I bought at a Titanic exhibit a few years back. It says Titanic, White Star Line Crew. It never fails to get comments from crew members. (At the exhibit the admission ticket was a "boarding pass". On the back it listed a passenger's name and at the end of the exhibit you could see whether your name survived or not. Mine was for J Bruce Ismay, the Director of the White Star Line. As you may recall from the film, he's the one who weaseled his way on to the lifeboat. After seeing his name I turned to my wife and child and informed them that I'm not sure what happened to them but I know that I made it.)
