.... Does your cabin seem smaller than in the brochure? Are there connecting doors on the balcony?

No. Actually it is the exact size that we anticipated. Just fine.

On the balcony, not connecting doors per se, but rather the partitions are hinged halfway back. They are secured with a bolt that maintenance could remove and swung back and secured.

Thanks for the pictures, we will be onboard in 6 weeks time.

What is the scrummy looking chocolate desert in your photo and which restaurant?

Glen, The restaurant is La Reserve, we did not try it when we were on board, as there was quite a lot of fish on the menu. Not my cup of tea.

Yes not long to go before we get back on board.:D:D:D

Ron. Many thanks for the pictures, as I said we got off as you got on and notice that the string quartet has changed from our sailing, they had two men and two ladies.

Please keep the pictures coming especially inside the ship and staff.

Thanks

G'morning... (posting as I am having breakfast in the Terrace Cafe.)

2 more sea days and we return to Miami. It has been a great cruise on all fronts.

Last call if anyone has a request for a picture of a certain area of the Riviera or any questions about the facilities....

Today is an easy no-port day, welcomed, after 5 in a row this past week.

Ron - my wife and I are looking at the Riviera next year for a Med cruise. We are in our late 40's - did you run into any folks our age? That is the only thing holding me back from going is that I am afraid we will be the only ones our age!

Okat Ron. How about a photo (clear) of the steam room?

Not Ron but will try to help.

We were your age (okay, one of us was) for our first O cruise and thoroughly enjoyed it. But that was us and not really your question.

Did we run into others our age? Yes, a but only a few and a couple younger but most were older.

But how you will enjoy your cruise depends on your expectations. If you are close to booking then I assume you have read some of these posts and O's literature and prepared for a relaxed and enjoyable cruise with excellent food and wonderful pax. In fact it was meeting so many interesting people on board that has us continuing to sail with O.

Your question, which is a valid concern but hard to answer as we don't know 'you', has been discussed on other threads. You will likely get more responses if you start a thread of its own with this topic or just 're-activate' an older one such as this one started by "thirty-somethings":

Thanks - this thread was helpful. We are D+ on Royal but now that we are empty-nesters I am ready to upgrade. We are looking at Oceania and Azamara (since we would be Elite in Le Club). But I think I am leaning towards the Riviera in some part because of the size of the ship. Not sure I am ready for the culture shock of a 600 passenger ship.

Hello to all. We are safely home. It was a marvelous and flawless trip. We thoroughly enjoyed our first cruise on Oceania...and certainly not our last. I found it very interesting how many fellow cruisers were also O-rookies.

Great TR Ron love the photos. Glad you are enjoying your cruise. How does it compare with previous cruise ships you have been on. We just love love oceania. My number 1.

Thanks... I will post a pictorial on the trip as I get the photos sorted out.

It will be hard to compare with previous ships, due to size, etc. but I will say, we found the entire experience very, very comfortable and very classy.

The wife and I would love to hear about your experience at La Reserve.

Thanks

Our meal at La Reserve was over the top.... one of the best shipboard dining experiences we have ever had. Sharing the table with new friends we met on the forum prior to sailing... having two crew members we had previously befriended be the hosts...and a spectacular pairing of dishes, garnished with the explanations and education. Two thumbs up is a laughable understatement! :p

With a sample of one, I can't accurately answer for future cruises, but I can say that you would not be chronologically alone. There was a nice mix of ages, several families.

If I could I would place the center of the bell curve at early retirees... with a reasonable dispersion either way.

Personally, I continue to remain mentally in my forties (suffering from a Peter Pan syndrome)... and did not feel uncomfortable. I will say that (as others have pointed out) there is no night life in the classic sense... but a few areas stay perking after the 9:30 show.

I can honestly say that I did not think of bringing my camera into the steam room.

But... in the Spa... separate Men's and Ladies' steam rooms.

It contained a large two-level Sauna, a spacious tiled steam room and two showers... one with great temp and flow controlled by colored illuminated buttons.

When you get a locker in the Spa, you can select whether you want one in the Steam room, or in the separate changing room..

Good choice... we have exactly the same concern of booking the Regatta... we need to study it a bit more.

Thank you for taking the time and effort to post (especially live!). I was trying to see what you shot with (especially the food porn) and the exif info I could see pointed towards Apple.

You are welcome. My pleasure... I will have a more complete thread going towards the end of the week.

Camera used was a Sony DSC-HX30V... about the nicest point and shoot we've had.
