Ruxin Posted April 8, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 8, 2013 We will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express on 17th St the night prior to our cruise this weekend. We are a family of 5 and are planning on taking a taxi to the port. Will we need to pre-book a taxi or can we count on taxis lining up at the hotel on Sunday morning? As we are 5, I believe we will need a van (I'm not sure that we would fit in a regular sedan). Thanks in advance for any advice/help you can offer! CruiserBruce Posted April 8, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 8, 2013 If there aren't any taxis close by, just have the front desk call one, particularly so you get a van.
Rare Keith1010 Posted April 8, 2013 #3 Share Posted April 8, 2013 I would just let the front desk know about 15 minutes before you are ready to go that you need a cab. Keith
monicajay Posted April 9, 2013 #4 Share Posted April 9, 2013 Our only experience with pre-booking a taxi didn't turn out too well. The cab never showed at our hotel and we were worried about getting to the airport on time. Luckily, a shuttle service showed up delivering someone to our hotel and we convinced the driver we really needed to get to the airport in a hurry. On 17th, there are lots of cabs. There would be no need to book in advance. Ask the hotel to call one or head to the street (17th) and you will have no difficulty flagging one. Good Luck! Eng23 Posted April 9, 2013 #5 Share Posted April 9, 2013 More than likely there will be plenty of cabs in the 17th Street area as they know the days that ships are in port and it's always busy on a turn around day. Like others said just let the front desk know 15-30 minutes prior to when you want to leave so they can call for a cab.
ragtiki2004 Posted April 9, 2013 #6 Share Posted April 9, 2013 Should have no problem getting a taxi. Have always had a good experience with taxi service in Fort Lauderdale. Bob:)
Putterdude Posted April 9, 2013 #7 Share Posted April 9, 2013 There are lots of cabs in Fort Lauderdale and normally there is no problem getting one. However, we did have the experience in January staying at the Hyatt Place just off 17th where we couldn't get one. I rather suspect the hotel desk was not calling cabs and instead forcing guests to take their contracted shutte....which after waiting 40 mins and seeing lots of cabs going by empty, we took.

We'll plan on asking the front desk to call us a cab in the morning - and hopefully it will show up in a reasonable amount of time. At least we know we have plenty of time to get to the ship. Thanks again!
