sjde Posted April 11, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 11, 2013 We spent 10 or 12 hours here last week on a cruise. It was our favorite port. Someone had said it's run-down and /or a has-been. Definitely not! We also went to Cannes, Nice and Monaco. There is no need for a tour--you can do it on your own. We walked around the citadel and all around town. We also took a bus trip to "Little Venice"-Port Grimaud, built in the 60's, and the old hilltop village of Grimaud--wonderful! There are only 900 residents and there is a castle on top anjd a workingt windmill. We saw no other vistors, maybe 4 residents. Saw no shops and only a few restaurants. Not much to do there--wouldn't want to stay for days but very quaint and picturesque. Our guide told us in summer it can take an hour to go 6 km. I think St Tropez has 5000 year round residents and 100,000 can be there on a summer day. Apparently Bridget Bardot still signs autographs on Thursdays for a few hours in the afternoon on a main square.

sjde Posted April 12, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted April 12, 2013 I was in Portofino once in the off-season and loved it! So quiet and unhurried. Of course, it was rainy too--this was November.
Rare llarsen Posted April 19, 2013 #4 Share Posted April 19, 2013 sjde- We will be in St Tropez this coming October on Oceania. We are in port until midnight, did you see any bus/train stations? It has been hard for me to find information about this port here on CC, as not many ships dock there. Thank you!

maryshopper Posted April 21, 2013 #6 Share Posted April 21, 2013 Do you know the name of the tour group that you went on the bus trip to Grimaud? I will be there in May and would like to go to Grimaud. Thanks, Mary
