Kingaroo Posted April 13, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 13, 2013 Hi Everyone, This will be our first cruise ever, we are on the Allure of the Seas, western Caribbean in May. We are trying to pick out off shore excursions and are stuck on the debate of which of the above we should do or are worth doing. We will most likely not be cruising anytime soon after this one so I want to make sure we take full advantage of our time. The Mayan Ruins appear to be an all day excursion, I want to know if anyone has done it and their thoughts. Would we be better off on the ATV ride? PS.If you have any other recommendations for other excursions please share, there are way too may to pick from so it's getting a bit frustrating trying to sort thru all of them. Thanks Kinga
Rare Keith1010 Posted April 13, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 13, 2013 Welcome to Cruise Critic. I would get input on three different boards. First on is the RCI Cruise Line Board http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=83 Also other members of cruise critic who are on your cruise will post on the roll call. This link will take you to the cruse ship roll call. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=578 Then scroll down to look for your sailing date. Finally, you can also get input from the ports of call board. This will take you to it. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=210 Keith
CaroleSS Posted April 13, 2013 #3 Share Posted April 13, 2013 I am going to make this VERY easy for you.....you can't go wrong with either! We did an ATV trip in Cozumel and it was a blast! We got dirty, sweaty and had grit in our teeth from smiling so much! On a separate AI trip to Playa del Carmen, we went to Chichenitza (sp?) which was equally great, but more historical rather than active. On the same AI trip, we did an ATV trip near Tulum. The ruins ther are nice, but we liked Chichenitza better, but the ATV trip was equally fun. Tough choice, but it were me (which of course it's not), I'd do the ruins trip - only because you might be able to do ATVing somewhere else, but the ruins are specific to one place.......but you won't go wrong with either! JimAOk1945 Posted April 13, 2013 #4 Share Posted April 13, 2013 Kingaroo, Which Mayan ruins? If you are referring to the Cozumel area, we have been to both Tulum and Chichen Itza. They are both all day excursions, so it's better to book whichever one you're going to through the cruise line. Perhaps viewing pictures of both will help you decide. Each slideshow will play as soon as the page opens, but you can also go through the pictures by clicking on the thumbnails one at a time. Tulum http://nancysoasis.com/2012tulum/tulum.html Chichen Itza http://nancysoasis.com/chitchen/chitchen.html Happy Cruising! It's a great way to explore the world. :D
akcruz Posted April 13, 2013 #5 Share Posted April 13, 2013 If you end up doing tge ruins make sure to do the trip through the cruise line. Most of the ruins require a ferry ride to the mainkand, which can get bumpy. The trip is a full day. On the other hand the ATV is probably close to the dock and will give you time to see other things if you are interested. Cannot say which is better fir you but hopefully this info will help your decision.

dsrdsrdsr Posted May 11, 2013 #9 Share Posted May 11, 2013 I enjoyed the Natural bridges and the large rocks (can't remember the name) in Aruba. Is that any use? You haven't told us where you're going.
