Giantfan13 Posted April 20, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 20, 2013 We are sailing the Glory in July with stops in Portland, Halifax, St John and Sydney. Are any of these ports tender ports?. If not, does the ship dock right in the heart of these towns? Are there taxi's available at the ports? Cheers Len
craftykitty Posted April 24, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 24, 2013 Can't speak for Portland, but both Canadian ports are right down town and transportation will not be a problem. Actually you can walk to many sites and still enjoy the day.
maryann ns Posted April 24, 2013 #3 Share Posted April 24, 2013 If there are too many ships in Sydney it may be a tender for some. Your cruise itinerary should indicate that. Sydney, Halifax and Saint John all have ships docking right in town. There will be taxis at the ports, but one person has said that there is a shortage of them in Sydney. Check the other current threads here for more information.
Gingee Posted April 25, 2013 #4 Share Posted April 25, 2013 Is there much to walk to in Sydney from the cruise terminal?
CruisinCadie Posted April 25, 2013 #5 Share Posted April 25, 2013 How hilly is Sydney? Bird Island? Scottish Highland Village? I am looking at tours and can't decide. We both have some mobility issues. We can walk a couple miles at a stretch but have problems with hills. Kathy
dog1 Posted May 6, 2013 #6 Share Posted May 6, 2013 With regard to walking near the Sydney cruise terminal, my recollection is that the shops and stores are somewhat limited. We were there about five years ago, so my recollection is not crisp. But I remember that we took a tour and then walked around the port area. I remember a casino or two if that interests you. But overall there wasn't too much of interest to us. We will be back this fall, and I am planning accordingly.
Gingee Posted May 6, 2013 #7 Share Posted May 6, 2013 Thanks for the information. I think we will do the Pink Bus with the cruise line to get a idea of the area.

purduemom1 Posted May 6, 2013 #10 Share Posted May 6, 2013 We stopped in Gaspe last Oct. it is a tender port. There was free wifi in the port building as well as food and some local venders. We walked over the bridge into town and went in to some shops. The city was also offering a shuttle into town for $5, I believe. Since we did not take it, I can't tell you much about it. jettaleea Posted May 19, 2013 #13 Share Posted May 19, 2013 Has anyone used Ken as a guide in Gaspe? Comments please? Just returned from a tour with Ken to Perce. The group was pleased with the tour. His wife offered a lunch of vegetable soup and lemon pie at their hotel but no one ate there.

jettaleea Posted May 20, 2013 #16 Share Posted May 20, 2013 Good question---did you eat somewhere else? No one was really interested in vegetable soup and lemon pie. When you're in a seafood region you'd prefer to get that, especially if you live in an area where fresh seafood isn't available. The cost was $11.95. We opted to head to the grocery store and get some cheese curds. It was too early in the season and very few places were open.

We celebrate 30 years of marriage in June and this trip in July looks magic. Our travel agent has been aboard a Canada cruise and she said everyone goes to bed at 9:30pm... Her attempt at poking fun at us over 50. Couple that with the prices quoted for past guests and we are on the lido deck in a balcony. I'd be curious what research you have done about what things to see and do while in port. Cheers back from a Houston Texans fan!;)
