Security on Carnival Spirit

Recommended Posts

We are booked on our first cruise on Carnival Spirit in July. This cruise includes part of the NSW school holidays. We have cruised with both Princess and P&O who both controlled the behaviour of children extremely well particularly in the buffet. I am assuming that Carnival Spirit will be the same. I would appreciate any comments.

PS We do like children and are aware that there will be a larger number due to timing.

You presume wrong BUT that's only an issue if a)the kids are ratbags or b) you simply don't like children. If you travel during school holidays there will be a LOT of children on board. We had 980-ish on our cruise in April. That said the majority were quite well behaved. If you want have a spa then do it in the adults area - the kids FULLY occupy the rest of the spas/pools. The kids weren't an issue around the buffet at all and were mostly supervised by their parents. Security was fairly invisible but wasn't really needed a lot - occasionally stopping kids bombing in the pool or being silly.

At the end of the day your own attitude is the main driver - if you can live with kids all around you then the cruise will be fine. Most of the time the kids are fairly out-of-sight.

We just got off Carnival Spirit today, it wasn't during school holidays, and there were still 600+ children on board. They weren't bad, but they certainly weren't kept 'under' control, and security was lacking. I found some good quiet spots away from the little sweethearts and little terrors, (although the buffet wasn't one of them!) and I'm sure you will too.

Was on spirit a month ago- the spirit is a kid friendly ship- i

was amazed at how well it looks considering the punishment the majority teenagers put into there cruise.

i witnessed teenagers climbing on and over chairs and tables in the palace show lounge-giving the furniture a major workout, and yet its so well built, that it does,nt show the wear and tear.

i thought security was exellent-i got up at 3.am and went to the pizza bar,and security were tailing a group of loud people disrcetly -

what a hard job they have, breaking up fights of kids in the spa,the thought of parents taking exception to there little princess being told what to do,and not to do,is  frightening, thats my fears

parents getting involved-then all hell breaking loose.

its a jungle on the seas-once ws enough on the spirit for me

As a couple i did,nt find any quiet places,-but familys will love it.

Western Australian kids only went back this week. Mine on Wednesday. So this cruise would have been during a school holiday break. I would have expected loads of kids.

I was aware WA had school holidays and that none of the other states were on holidays. I checked this when I booked the cruise 4 weeks ago, but I was going regardless due to the very cheap rates offered. I didn't meet a single person from WA (although I'm sure there were a few onboard). Most people I spoke to with kids were from QLD, NSW, or VIC, and had pulled their kids out of school. There were a lot of younger children/toddlers as well. As this is a cruise ship targeting families and fun, I would expect a lot of kids at any time, but obviously more during school holidays. I would expect WA school holidays would have the smallest impact due to proximity to Sydney and population.

Carnival Spirit doesn't.

That's interesting!! Didn't know that!! There are some quite inexpensive sailings showing for CS - was thinking of grabbing one just to experience something different. But 600 kids outside of school hols????

On one of our P&O cruises several years ago there were a lot of kids and it wasn't school holidays. The little blighters were everywhere!:D Then we heard that the cruise had been advertised as "kids sail free" and many were travelling with grandparents or grandma.

Our PDawn cruise from Brisbane last September was outside of Qld school holidays and there were 'heaps' of kids - the most I have ever seen. It was a fabulous itinerary so maybe that was the reason. They weren't really any trouble as they were mainly in the kids' clubs - it just took longer to tender, get food from the buffet etc.

Ship security is not anywhere near the quality that it is on P&O. I don't think Carnival have any idea as to what level of security is needed on their cruises down under. We were on the Spirit with two girls who caused untold issues, including being drunk, offering to buy children alcohol, offering lap dances to the crew and other passengers, hitting on as many people they could AND accused two boys of rape, ruining their cruise and then changing their stories when escorted off the ship by the police. The security was not stopping their behaviour until late on in the cruise.

There were kids causing problems on our cruise too, being rowdy in the buffet, being stupid in the lifts, and causing disturbances by roaming around in groups after 10pm.

P& O however the year before were escorting teens back to their cabins after 12, and were very much in presence. I think Carnival really need to up their game.

Hi, have cruised lots of times outside school holidays, and there were kids everywhere, sometimes you don't see many because they are in kids club....but other times , they are pressing buttons in the lifts, playing up in the spa's,.pushing past passengers, running everywhere...etc.

during holiday times I found they are fairly well behaved...

They are all excited to be cruising..

Some adults act worse than the kids.

kind regards, Lorraine :):)
