QV - should we 'risk' an upgrade?

We have booked one of the midships cabins on QV with the large balcony - cabin 6095. We were very pleased to get this cabin, both for the location and the balcony size. However, when I asked the booking agent to mark the booking 'no upgrade' she was somewhat surprised, to say the least, as we are forgoing the chance of an upgrade to Princess Grill. To me, the location and balcony are too good to give up for a PG cabin which could be anywhere (even assuming we got an upgrade), but then I've never experienced Princess Grill. Have I made the right decision, or am I missing something?

I think you've probably done the right thing. 6095 is a corner balcony which means the cabin will also be bigger as well as the balcony.

If you were given an upgrade, it might only be to a Britannia cabin on deck 7 or 8 and not necessarily a PG.

I've been in one of the corner balconies, and in PG, and would not wish to give up the much better balcony for the vague off-chance of an upgrade to PG.

Just to put my money where my mouth is, we marked our corner balcony 'no upgrade'.

I have to agree with Norfolk Brit, I loved my corner balcony on QE and would have another in an instant.

I would want Sir Peter of Shanks himself to escort me to one of the QG cabins overlooking the stern before I would consider moving, if I had one of the corner cabins booked.

All best wishes, Bon Voyage!

Are the QG cabins overlooking the stern that good, that they are the only staterooms you'd give up your corner cabin for. Not saying you'd say no to Princess Grill, or would you?

That particular issue may have been fixed with the reclassification of staterooms. Now all midship balcony cabins are graded the same (aside from obstructed view/metal front balconies) so I believe you should not get 'upgraded' from midship on 6 to midship on 7 or 8.

I certainly wouldn't mind upgrading to the Grills. When doing Britannia level we always allowed for potential upgrades(never got any, though.)

I don't think there is any comparison at all between the QG cabins overlooking the stern and any other cabins on board QE or QV. These cabins are so good you could even start charging entrance fees for those wanting a glimpse of the nirvana to be found therein.

But presumably the upgrade to a Q1 that is being organised for you by Saint Peter in person will trump your "no upgrade" request.

Good grief! I knew QG was pretty impressive but I didn't know the cabins came with a resident pop group :D:D

Hi Whitemarsh,

I think I am saying no to Princess Grill thanks all the same  !

I like the Britannia Restaurant on QM2 esp. & on QE :) . I am very happy there and don't mind taking my turn at the oars when required.

Having been in a Q2 Duplex (Holyrood Suite) on QM2 one afternoon in 2011... the butler served canapes and champagne while I took in the views over the stern... amazing :) . Were I ever to win the lottery, Queens Grill for me :) .

Actually I wouldn't want to inflict me on lovely Grill passengers so I'll continue to hide amongst the far greater number of nice Britannia grade passengers where the stewards stick me in a far corner against the wall and hope no-one notices, and apologise if they do.

All best wishes,

Sorry, St Peter, should have made it clear that my 'no upgrade' request was in 2010. This year (15 May, QV) the booking is clearly marked "Q1 or I shall be extremely difficult".

And, having lurked around on here for a few years, I know exactly how to be extremely difficult.

All best wishes,

Pepper, we would welcome you with open arms into QG. We are really very nice.:) Another poster here might even let you take photos in his stern QG cabin on QE. Not mentioning any names, of course.

A photo op in a stern QG suite could easily be arranged (without mentioning names).

Pepper would of course be most welcomed and we are very nice. :) Oh did I tell you that I was voted Mr Congeniality on my most recent voyage? ;)

Three - or rather four if you include my wife. We loved it in Britannia, and in fact everywhere on the QM2.

What's not to love? :) She's a beautiful and well designed ship.

It's really pleasing to hear that other people have enjoyed their cruise on QM2 as well. She gets picked on a lot, so it's good to hear positive comments every now and then.

I truly hope that one day we are privileged to sail with you and would gladly sit with you in any corner;) of the lovely Britannia and help you row!

(of course, for agreeing to help row we would like some photography lessons, please :D)

"I like the Britannia Restaurant on QM2 esp. & on QE"..

Competely agree with that statement.

best regards,
