Janner13 Posted May 29, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 29, 2013 I'm wondering if it is worth it to go to the Icebar? How far is it from the port and what is the easiest way to get there?
movc Posted May 29, 2013 #2 Share Posted May 29, 2013 Icebars pop up in cities around the world and are as touristy as wax museums. The one is Stockholm is by the north end of the train station. Fun until you get too cold and have to exit and pricey (especially on a ships tour). http://www.tripadvisor.ca/Attraction_Review-g189852-d515794-Reviews-Icebar_by_Icehotel_Stockholm-Stockholm.html
Rare John Bull Posted May 29, 2013 #3 Share Posted May 29, 2013 Sorry to be negative, especially as I've not been there. But I heard plenty of opinions on this site & elsewhere that put me off, confirmed by folk who returned from there to the ship. Quirky, but expensive (even DIY) & not worth the time, trouble or money was the general verdict. To stress - that's not personal experience, but the opinions of others JB :)

Desdichado62 Posted May 31, 2013 #5 Share Posted May 31, 2013 I'd say, skip the Stockholm ice bar, start saving and then book a trip to the original ice bar at the ice hotel in Jukkasjärvi. ;) https://maps.google.se/maps?q=ICEHOTEL,+Marknadsv%C3%A4gen,+Jukkasj%C3%A4rvi&hl=sv&ie=UTF8&ll=67.855847,20.604343&spn=0.024879,0.132093&sll=67.839535,20.563231&sspn=0.024897,0.132093&oq=Jukkasj%C3%A4rvi+ic&t=h&hq=ICEHOTEL,&hnear=Marknadsv%C3%A4gen,+981+91+Jukkasj%C3%A4rvi&z=
Rare Got2Cruise Posted May 31, 2013 #6 Share Posted May 31, 2013 Awww, c'mon some times you just have to try something for "fun" and the novelty of it. We did the Ice Bar in Stockholm with another couple we met on CC and we had some good laughs. We did it as part of the ship tour that not only did the Ice Bar, but the Vasa Museum and a walking tour of the city. When we went two years ago the NCL Sun did not dock in the city, but about an hour away suburb so taking the ship's tour was the easiest to squeeze all three in. No fuss, everything was reserved. You probably could do it for less $$ if you figure out the logistics yourself.

But surely "original" is stretching it a bit when it's brand new every year? ;)

Yes, a bit touristy but lots of fun and a nice break from the many historical sights we visited on our Baltic cruise.
