Booking the Legend - what cabin would you pick from Tampa to Sydney...

Legends currently posted schedule has it returning to Tampa on May 4th, 2014 with no other cruises scheduled.

If she starts from there, does the Panama, then Hawaii, then Transpacific, she would be in Sydney approximately June 16-19 (depending on the length of each leg).

Sounds like an awesome itinerary...maybe something to consider switching our current booking to.

She isn't do to be sailing out of OZ until September so there probably will be either some Caribbean cruises out of Tampa or Mexican Cruises out of Long Beach first. There is also a scheduled dry dock in there somewhere.

So glad to see this thread....a panama canal on a Carnival ship is something I have wanted to do for a long time...and others have just not worked out! also will have to convince dh:eek:

Many years ago we were booked on the Spirit from California..but they decided to keep her there for a while and our cruise got cancelled.

That is the 4/27/14 sailing and the last thing posted for the Legend. We are waiting for the stuff that follows.

We did the Miracle's repo from NY to Long Beach through the Panama Canal this past March, and it was just fantastic.

The Imagination is doing the 16-day Panama (Miami to Long Beach) on January 10, 2014. Maybe you can convince your DH to do this one !

Many of us that did the Spirit repo last year, are also waiting for the itinerary.

The Legend may also do a Pacific coast, then maybe 1 or 2 Alaska trips, so it can leave from Vancouver to Hawaii, if it does a Hawaii leg.

I boarded the Spirit in Seattle last year, and then took her all the way to Sydney. Though the last leg to Sydney was posted as 17 days, it was only 16, since we lost a day crossing Intl. date line.

I will only do the last leg this time, so I can see more of Australia, this time around. I will probably look into a 4K this time. I sure hope she goes to Bora Bora again...LOVE that place.

I did the Elation repo through the canal in 2010, and it is a really awesome trip for those that have never done it.

I am hoping that John H. was correct and that the Legend's 2014 schedule will be posted tomorrow. Right now this is all an educated guess, but here is what I am thinking they will do:

  • Sep 24, 2014 Tampa to Long Beach via the Panama Canal 15 - 16 days
  • Oct 10, 2014 Long Beach to Honolulu 12 days
  • Oct 22, 2014 Honolulu to Sydney 17 days

The press release used the Sep 24, 2014 date, but I don't know if that is when they expected to depart Tampa or arrive in Sydney.

All three of these segments are bucket-list trips for us. We are currently booked on the Miracle to Hawaii in Apr. 2014, but would cancel that cruise for this one.

With all this said, what cabin would you book for this trip? John

One of the aft wraps!

I was reading the posts/comments from others on John's Facebook and he replied to someone about the next deployment release.

It looks like it has been delayed until June 7th!

And Liberty won't be released until June 17th.

Aarrgghh! Originally the announcement was supposed to be 5/28. Then today. Now 6/7. And a previous announcement said that the Legend would be seasonal in Australia, returning to the U.S. in the spring of 2015.

John, I was with you on the Splendor's trip around South America. And Deb, I was with you on the Spirit's trip to Oz last fall (several of the people from that trip are planning to go again, including Ann and Gale).

I did a Panama Canal transit on the Paradise a couple yrs ago and loved it. Next up for me is one of the Legend's Baltic cruises in Jul/Aug. Then a Princess Black sea cruise in Sep. Then the Sunshine TA in Nov. Then the Miracle Hawaii in Jan. Then a Viking river cruise, Amsterdam to Budapest, in Apr/May. (Can you say "addicted" :o?)

Until I see the itinerary, dates, and price for the trip to Oz, I don't know if I'm doing 1 leg, or 2, or 3. Not sure yet if I'm traveling solo.

This waiting is killing me. I know that patience is a virtue - just not one of mine.

Karen

Thank you for the update on the schedule announcement. Maybe now I can get some work done, at least until Friday. I already have a date with my PVP as soon as the schedule is announced so we can figure out how much of this one we can do.

According to the Sydney port schedule it looks like she will arrive in Sydney on September 22nd and stay docked until the 23rd. Then leave on the 23rd for a 1 day cruise and arrive back on the 24th to start regularly scheduled cruises.

Thats to convert the casino to accept Australian money, same thing they did on the Spirit..Dennis

Hi George, I looked at that. Using a Sep 2014 Hawaii cruise, I compared that cabin to an aft balcony on decks 5, 6 or 7 and found it to be 50% more expensive. I was put off on deck 8 as it is right below the lido pool area. Not sure if that would be a problem, but just in case I skipped it.

Depending on the price, we might just end up in a 4K cabin. But, my wife is not willing to book it. She would rather have an extended balcony. So, the aft balconies look like a good fit.

We will also be on the Legend, starting 9/1 for 39 days. Since you said summer, I'm assuming you will be on one of the Baltic cruises. Have fun!

John

Those 4 K's go awfully fast exspecialy the ones between the lifeboats...I alway stay somewhere on deck 7 between passenger decks and a short walk up to the buffett..Dennis

I found the Sydney Port schedule and you are right. The Legend does not leave at the end of your summer in 2015. I gave up looking after finding it there well into 2016. John

The rumor-mill said they were going to do Asia cruises during the Australian winter..Dennis

Here is a cruise schedule from for Sydney Ports. It shows the Legend arriving arriving in Sydney on 22 Sept 2014 at 6:00 AM. It shows the Legend docking multiple times every months until 06-Jan-2018. The period between dates varies from a week to two weeks, and many options in between.

So, DUNNO! John

Hi Karen, Yep, you are addicted! :)

Your comment about patience reminded me of this cartoon. Our friends from North Pole, Alaska (FrozenMist) will the on the Jan Hawaii cruise also. Do you remember, or know them? John20.jpg

Yes, I remember them. They're on the Miracle roll call.

And some other folks from last fall's Spirit to Oz, including Mary and Serge, are on the Sunshine TA roll call.

Sounds like the next trip to Oz will be quite a reunion from various cruises.

The Legend is scheduled to arrive/start cruises from Sydney on September 24th.

Also Long Beach to Honolulu is not possible. They would have to visit a distant foreign port to travel between two US ports. I guess they could stop at Fanning Island, but that port is not used very often.

There are two possibilities (that I can think of) for the routings:

Route 1:

Panama Canal: Tampa to San Diego

Hawaii: Ensenada to Honolulu

Transpacific: Honolulu to Sydney

Route 2:

Panama Canal: Tampa to San Diego/Long Beach

CA Coastal: San Diego/Long Beach to Vancouver

Hawaii: Vancouver to Hawaii

Transpacific: Hawaii to Sydney

"Long Beach" to Honolulu is possible if they bus the people to Ensenada to board the ship. That's how Carnival used to do it.

Well listing in a port scheudle has proved to be at best less than relible. As of three weeks ago, Carnival was listed with multiple ships in European ports for 2014. As we now all know, they are not cruising Europe in 2014. I was told from a trusted Carnival management person that the Legend will be returning off season from Australia to the states. I asked again this morning and was told that still stands.

You may be right....who knows. My favorite room on the Legend is Vista Aft wrap suite floor 4 BTW. Great room (actually two rooms) and best balcony we have had. Have many pics also:D
