Charges on my sign and sail aren't mine

Recommended Posts

I just got around to reviewing my sign and sign statement from our cruise. Is it too late to dispute some of the charge? The total charges i am disputing are 58.90. Charges at a bar we never went to and 3 drinks that we never had. Captain on the rocks. Dont get me wrong we drank our fair share just not at this one bar and we never drink captain on the rocks. Our cruise ended on June 6th. Any suggestions on how to handle this?

I guess I'd start with calling Carnival and find out who to talk to. There's probably not a whole lot you can do about it now.

We always check our bill before we leave the ship.

One time my mother had a charge on her bill for a drink in the disco. We went to the Customer Service desk to dispute it. I assured them my elderly mother had not been in the disco. One look at her and they believed me. They took the charge off right away.

I think this happens a lot.

Sondra, look at the time you were charged. If you can show you were somewhere else at this time it would make it easier to dispute. Being it has been almost 2 weeks since we got off, it may be a moot point, but give it a try.

Is it worth the time to fight an $8.90 charge? Just asking. If you make $25+ an hour and it takes more than 23 minutes to take care of this matter you are over that amount in time invested. :)

In 14 cruises with Carnival I've never seen them identify a specific drink on a sign & sail account statement. They'll name the specific BAR, yes, but not the drink. Is this something new on the Glory?

On one of my cruises I didn't recognize the name of the bar that was showing up on my S&S statement. I knew I hadn't been to that bar. ..until I realized that it was the bar just outside of the MDR, where the martinis I ordered at dinner were made!

$8.90 I wouldnt dispute, but $58.90 that the original poster was charged I would. $60 is alot of money.

OP was on Fascination not Glory. I also have never noticed the type of drink ordered, just the location of the bar.

I'm not going to dispute whether or not the OP should try to get the charges reversed. At this point in time its going to be difficult.

I am writing to say that with 18 cruises on Carnival, we have learned to check our account more than once during the cruise. With the account being available for viewing on the TV in your cabin, its easy to check during the cruise (I do it while waiting for my wife or girls to get ready for dinner and I am enjoying a before dinner drink). It is much easier to dispute a charge while on board and you have receipts than after you are off the ship. It does happen, many times the servers will look at your Folio number on your S&S card and write it down wrong. You sign the slip without looking at it and then you charge something to someone else's account.

Some things to understand though:

The bar names are not always bars you would have gone to. Like another poster said, the MDR servers use bars outside the MDR to get drinks from. So you won't recognize them by name. keep your receipts. then you can match a receipt to a bar by time and then know what bar names to expect.

This holds true for other places in the ship- The main theater. If you get drinks there....casino sometimes (but most of the time it will be the casino bar)

S&S charges for money in a casino slot machine shows up as "entertainment"

If you order a birthday cake for delivery in the MDR, that will come from Formalities

There are others, but if you save your receipts and go through them a couple of times during a cruise, it doesn't take a long time on the last day to run through it. Also, if you catch something in the middle of the cruise the line at the GS desk is much shorter during a cruise than on the last night when EVERYONE is doing this.

I agree with other posters who say to frequently check your s&s during the cruise. This can easily be done on the cabin TV. We have spotted discrepancies during our cruise and have addressed them with Guest Services. Much easier to reconcile if you review your account a couple of times during the cruise, rather than wait til the last minute.

OP best you can do is call Carnival and see what they will do for you. Good luck

Did you go to Half Moon Cay? The drinks we ordered at that pirate ship looking bar on Half Moon Cay showed up on our S& S as "Captain on The Rocks" and the specific drinks we 'ordered were drinks of the day in those wooden coconuts... Check the day if it was Half Moon Cay and you did order any drinks at that bar, im betting thats what it is because I was confused by it at first also.

I know the OP and was on the same cruise with them, so I also give her the benefit of the doubt. As jlk806 just posted these may have been drinks while on HMC. DW and I didn't order drinks there, so can't comment, but I'm sure if they had anything to drink on the island they will remember.

As for checking the bill, I have a bad habit of not thoroughly checking ours down to the penny. Another bad habit is I don't keep the receipts which would make even harder to dispute.

I thought the same thing when reading the original post! Never seen a specific drink named, only the bar or venue and the amount.

As others have said, you can try but I would be surprised if the company reversed charges that were not disputed immediately upon getting the statement.

We always double check our statement all during the cruise.

I will say that I have found there are less errors (than in years past) now that they actually swipe your card in most cases.

It is the hand written ones that cause all the issues....(transposing numbers etc)

Ding ding ding. We have a winner. We did go to HMC and we did order drinks. Mystery solved!! Thank you so much!

We normally do check but it really is an inconvenience on the fascination. They don't have the charges on the tv and you have to wait in long lines at the kiosk. But lesson learned. i will definitely be checking my charges before I leave the ship next cruise. Thanks for all the help.

That made us kind of nervous on the Pride. We'd be watching a show and the server took my sail and sign for the first round of drinks but after that he didn't need it because he memorized my folio number (happened with more than one server and in more than one venue).
