Charges on my sign and sail aren't mine

Recommended Posts

Since you have to use your S&S card, and at least on the Splendor last year, I had to sign a receipt each time I bought anything, how do extra charges show up?

Charges can show up if they just write the folio # down and don't actually swipe the card. Many people (including me sometimes) just scribble a signature, so they may not even notice who signs. Server writes my folio # down for your drinks, you sign, but I would still get the bill.

Gotcha....I now remember them doing that in the Lounge while waiting for the show to start when I ordered my drink. I never really sign my "real signature" but I pay close attention to what the charge is, to make sure it's mine.

I have gotten into the habit of checking our account on the TV at least once everyday, and for sure when we disembark.

Last cruise I was convinced we had been incorrectly charged for drinks from some random bar, but eventually figured out it was during the show, so the drinks came from the adjacent bar. Color me sheepish. :o

I have found things difficult to understand some times on our sail & sign account. So far it has always been that I didn’t understand the name of the locations of the purchases.

I suggest to everyone get a print out of your account from guest services to revue. I think it is easier to understand than what shows up on the TV in you cabin.

Did you go to Half Moon Cay? The drinks we ordered at that pirate ship looking bar on Half Moon Cay showed up on our S& S as "Captain on The Rocks" and the specific drinks we 'ordered were drinks of the day in those wooden coconuts... Check the day if it was Half Moon Cay and you did order any drinks at that bar, im betting thats what it is because I was confused by it at first also.

Good to know this. We are going to another cruise line's "private island" for the first time, out of fifteen cruises, this coming February. I'll have to remember that if I order drinks at CoCo Cay it might show up as an odd looking charge on my Sign and Sail Card.

We just sign everything the "Underhills" and it works every time:)

HAHAHAHA! I wonder how many people remember this? Great movie, but the books were better. I'll never understand why Chevy Chase and the studio didn't choose to make film versions of all the novels instead of just trying to make a funny character. Thanks for the laugh. :D

I'm not going to dispute whether or not the OP should try to get the charges reversed. At this point in time its going to be difficult.

I am writing to say that with 18 cruises on Carnival, we have learned to check our account more than once during the cruise. With the account being available for viewing on the TV in your cabin, its easy to check during the cruise (I do it while waiting for my wife or girls to get ready for dinner and I am enjoying a before dinner drink). It is much easier to dispute a charge while on board and you have receipts than after you are off the ship. It does happen, many times the servers will look at your Folio number on your S&S card and write it down wrong. You sign the slip without looking at it and then you charge something to someone else's account.

Some things to understand though:

The bar names are not always bars you would have gone to. Like another poster said, the MDR servers use bars outside the MDR to get drinks from. So you won't recognize them by name. keep your receipts. then you can match a receipt to a bar by time and then know what bar names to expect.

This holds true for other places in the ship- The main theater. If you get drinks there....casino sometimes (but most of the time it will be the casino bar)

S&S charges for money in a casino slot machine shows up as "entertainment"

If you order a birthday cake for delivery in the MDR, that will come from Formalities

There are others, but if you save your receipts and go through them a couple of times during a cruise, it doesn't take a long time on the last day to run through it. Also, if you catch something in the middle of the cruise the line at the GS desk is much shorter during a cruise than on the last night when EVERYONE is doing this.

We check ours once a day. DH usually checks it - while I finish getting ready for dinner. ;) We have found our share of mistakes through the years. Hey...mistakes happen and most of them have easily been delt with while on board.

OP with the time lapse - since you "agreed" to the charges you may be in for an up hill battle. But for 60 bucks I'd keep trying!

Haha no problem! I probably wouldnt have remembered that detail except I was just looking at my S&S from last summer to calculate how much we spent on alcohol last year in prep for our cruise in 2 weeks and it reminded me of that!

I will say that I have found there are less errors (than in years past)

now that they actually swipe your card in most cases.

It is the hand written ones that cause all the issues....(transposing numbers etc)

Dyslexic waiters on Lido? -not impossible!

I just got around to reviewing my sign and sign statement from our cruise. Is it too late to dispute some of the charge? The total charges i am disputing are 58.90. Charges at a bar we never went to and 3 drinks that we never had. Captain on the rocks. Dont get me wrong we drank our fair share just not at this one bar and we never drink captain on the rocks. Our cruise ended on June 6th. Any suggestions on how to handle this?

I check my S&S account every day, or so. If I find something that I didn't charge I start by asking my DW. I've caught a few drink charges and one $100+ jewelry charge. They have always removed the charges. A lot of people don't want to worry about such stuff while on a cruise, but I guess I am anal about such things.

I check my S&S daily to be sure to catch any discrepancies. A problem I found out during our last cruise was that in "dark" venues such as the lounges and nightclubs, the waitstaff often can't see the folio numbers on the S&S, or miswrite the numbers on their paper, even when holding a flashlight.
