MilllieMillie Posted June 22, 2013 #1 Share Posted June 22, 2013 Hi there - we were thinking of the Galveston Roatan Belize itinerary in April or May and are looking for the best weather and the least amount of kids. Had almost settled on may but looks like this could be the shoulder season of storms if not hurricanes. Will also be doing a road trip on the gulf coast prior to or after the cruise so the chances of good weather is pretty important, coming from rainy vancouver. But April has lots of school spring breaks and Easter so don't want a shipload of kids! All comments and suggestions are welcome! (PS - we chose this itinerary because we've already done eastern, western and southern Caribbean and have never seen the gulf coast before, hence the road trip)
Rare Keith1010 Posted June 22, 2013 #2 Share Posted June 22, 2013 I would do May. You also meant the most amount of fun for the kids, I am assuming. Keith
kitty9 Posted June 22, 2013 #3 Share Posted June 22, 2013 May is not really a shoulder season for hurricanes, as late June and July is more of that. For less kids, late April and early May are the best. You won't find zero kids, especially on lines like Carnival or Royal Caribbean, but there will be less. BallFour4 Posted June 22, 2013 #4 Share Posted June 22, 2013 Both are about the same sailing from here. Spring Break is in March and school doesn't get out until the first week of June. Weather is close to perfect. Early spring fronts can sometimes make for a windy last day at sea, but that's the same for any port facing South. jamessemaj Posted June 22, 2013 #5 Share Posted June 22, 2013 The weather at that time shouldn't be a big concern. The number of kids is likely to be small as well, although some spring breaks go into April, and some schools are out in late May.
KirkNC Posted June 23, 2013 #6 Share Posted June 23, 2013 I would choose May, should be less kids but not too hot.
JimAOk1945 Posted June 23, 2013 #7 Share Posted June 23, 2013 We have sailed out of Galveston in April twice and the weather was beautiful, warm, and calm. There were a few children, but not many. Happy cruising. It's a great way to explore the world!
