So excited! Doing a Hurtigruten northern lights on the Midnastol march 2, 2016, then booked Prinsedam June 16 for a midnight sun up the norwegian coast! Couldn't make up my mind which to do so decided WTH, and booked both. I was fortunate to get a single full ocean view on the HAL Prinsendam!

I had the exact same experience. Besides the afternoon drinkers there were early arrivals for trivia!

C'mon RCCL- just a bit better planning.

I had the same experience on the Allure. I also think that RCCL can do better with solo pricing.

I sailed Allure November 30 and they advertised a "Solo Luncheon". I went and a few others wandered in, and no one from RCL was there. There was no luncheon set up, nothing at all there. Since this was my first solo cruise, it was very disappointing. I made a note of it on my survey, but don't know if it will help.

I never care if they have anything set up for solo cruisers. It makes

absolutely no difference to me if there are other solo cruisers on board

or not. I don't cruise to meet other solo's. I mean, if they are there?

Ok....if they are not? doesn't matter to me at all. As long as there are

friendly people on the ship, that is much more important to me than

if they are solo, divorced, married, widowed, etc......

I love to cruise:)......I cruise for me:D......marital status of other

passengers? Doesn't matter to me.

Lois, it doesn't matter to me what a persons relationship status is. A solo is someone traveling alone. A single is someone looking for a love connection. That's why these boards have two different categories, solo cruisers and single cruisers. The purpose of a gathering is to find other solo travelers who may be interested in spending some time with other solos. Rarely, though it did happen to me a few times, do married couples ask you to join them for dinner, and quite often, dinner is when solos might prefer company.

As the saying goes, to each her own or something like that. Now that I am a solo cruiser, I have to say NCL has the best setup for me. I can book a balcony or solo cabin and still meet up daily with other solo cruisers. The Solo Host is fantastic and the real coffee from the gigantic Keurig machine in the Lounge is free and quite good. I have no problem engaging cruisers of other status but I really enjoying being with people who are like minded so to speak.

Glad NCL works for you.....no reason to take a cruise and not have

fun:D

Hello Hondu' date='

Im confused. Im travelling on board NCL Jewel in September to Alaska and I was under the impression that the only solo travellers who could access the solo lounge were those in the solo cabins, and I not. Im in a balcony cabin and was wondering if I can access the solo lounge.[/quote']

Hello, please note the Jewel does not have a studio lounge; but on the other ships you are allowed in for the solo gathering. I found on the last Breakaway cruise I was on that the doors to the studio area were open during the day and I had no problem getting in.

Checking on NCL website, it says that only the Epic, Breakaway, Getaway, Pride of America and the upcoming Escape have a solo lounge. So basically, your ship does not have one.

This new thread is for Solo Cruisers to tell people about the next cruise they are planning and for other Solo Cruisers to refer to if they want to know if there will be other Solo passengers on a particular cruise that he or she is planning to book. Please follow the same format so that the posts on this thread will be easy to follow. The name of the ship and date should appear in the Title and then you can write your message in the body of the post. Please be sure to join in and periodically check the "Roll Call" for that Cruise Sailing, as well. Any conversations with other Cruise Critic members are better done on the Roll Call thread rather that this thread since this thread will likely cover several different cruises. Let's see how this works........

I'm considering a singles-hosted over 45 cruise on the Summit, S. Carib. leaving from Puerto Rico. I've traveled solo on 3 cruises, and like it. Would love to see if any other solos are traveling on this one.

Just booked a Carnival Mexican Riviera May 9th 2015 cruise in a balcony for $396. and that includes the port, taxes and ins. Also got $100 on board credit. This will be my 4th solo cruise. I am thinking of asking my Aunt to go Since I did have to pay double. $120 per person for 7 nights! :D I really can'r complain when I have to pay double at that rate! I got this thru one of Carnivals casino promos. She lives in CA so I would be able to pick her up on my way to the port. I'll be driving from AZ.

I just love these promos that Carnival has. Last year I went on my first solo through Carnival and have been getting these really great deals every since. I went on 2 of the promos last summer. I am excited! :D

So far I haven't been disappointed with any of the solo cruises on Carnival. Before I book I read and review everything I can so I know what to expect. So far Carnival has had the best prices for me. I have been treated very well by all the staff. I'm good at meeting people from the time I get in the line.

Even though the Solo Luncheon was a bust, I was lucky to meet three sisters traveling together. We enjoyed drinks at the Rising Tides bar. I ran into them periodically and always had good comraderie. I also met another widow cruising solo, her ninth! I invited her to dinner at a specialty restaurant since I had a comp for dinner for two. I liked it better than dining alone. Not interested in "hooking up" with anyone in particular as I have a boyfriend, and I don't want to be tied to anyone on a cruise. It is nice to meet solos and friendly couples with whom to share a laugh. I met lots of fun couples at Trivia. Again, I ran into them repeatedly on the cruise. It was a perfect blend of time alone and time with others, all of my choosing. I don't think the same would be true on a singles cruise. I see those advertised a lot. They serve a different purpose. I have seen a lot of that with singles clubs where I live. Not saying I would never do it, but would select one carefully.

LOVE to cruise solo! I might get my husband on one cruise a year and that's just not enough for me! I am a teacher and need frequent mental health vacations during the school year! Sailing on the Fascination in March, the Breeze in September, and the Victory in November!!

Cheri, late 50's. Been on 6 solo cruises on Carnival (mostly 3/4 days). Love the privacy of my own cabin, hate single supplement. Use a walker, so I prefer mid-ship cabins on Empress deck. Looking forward to another Halloween cruise (first was 6 years ago on the Paradise and one on RC Monarch a few years later).

Favorites are Karaoke and trivia. I stay away from off ship excursions and prefer a window seat on the Promenade deck with a good book, just watching the world go by.

Hope to see you in the future.
