Confusion--bringing wine onboard?

What exactly is the Holland policy (and practice in reality) for bringing your own wine onboard for consumption in your stateroom?

If you bring wine onboard, cork it yourself in your stateroom, is there a corkage fee? Is wine allowed only at point of embarkation or okay at excursion ports as well? Is there a limit?

Thanks.

Bring as much wine as you wish, drink it in your cabin (bring a corkscrew) and there is no corking fee. HAL does not permit you to drink your own wine in public areas except for the Main Dining Room where there will be a corkage fee. We never bring wine but I think the fee is about $18 plus 15% automatically added to all beverage checks.

You can bring wine aboard at embarkation as well as at ports along the way.

Not quite correct ... This is from the HAL website:

Guests can bring as much wine and/or champagne as they choose on board at embarkation or purchased in port. A corkage fee of US$18.00 applies to wine and champagne brought to the shipboard restaurants or bars for consumption. Wine and/or champagne brought on board cannot be consumed in any public venue.

So you can drink your own wine in ANY restaurant or bar on the ship. It is not limited to the Main Dining Room.

We have often had our own champagne at the Seaview Bar on sea days. The waiters will gladly bring over an ice bucket and appropriate glasses.

Thanks for the clarification.

We never bring wine aboard. For us, it isn't worth lugging it. We are always able to find a bottle on the wine lists that suit us.

At the present time -- you can bring as much wine, champagne, bottled water and sodas onto HAL ships as you want. There is no limit. Some people have brought on cases.

You can do this on Embarkation day as well as in all the ports you visit.

There is no corkage fee when you drink the wine in your cabin.

Take your own cork screw -- sometimes they run out of them. Your cabin steward can get you wine glasses and buckets of ice if you need to chill any wines.

You can take a bottle to the dining room or any bar/lounge for your enjoyment. There is an $18 per bottle corkage fee -- and that $18 already includes the 15% gratuity.

The 15% is included in the $18 corkage fee. The only time I've paid more than $18 was when Florida sales tax was added to the corkage fee while we were in Key West.
