Gingee Posted July 8, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 8, 2013 I was looking at the aerial map. Looks like there is a little island or something off of St. John NB. Does anyone know what this is? Do you see this spot when cruising?
trophy_23 Posted July 8, 2013 #2 Share Posted July 8, 2013 Are you talking about the Island that is connected as part of a breakwater? Looks like Partridge Island on google maps. Yes you would see that cruising in to the dock. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
RickT Posted July 8, 2013 #3 Share Posted July 8, 2013 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partridge_Island,_Saint_John_County I don't recall seeing this during our sail in or sail out from Saint John two years ago. Guess I wasn't looking for it :o I assume it's rather small and may depend on the actual route of the ship.
Gingee Posted July 9, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted July 9, 2013 I don't know what island it is. All I know is when you are going up Bay of Fundy it is on the left.
Acey-SJ Posted July 9, 2013 #5 Share Posted July 9, 2013 I think you may be referring to Manawagonish Island - it's a nature preserve and can only be accessed certain times of the year with permission. Close beside it is thump cap island. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
Acey-SJ Posted July 9, 2013 #6 Share Posted July 9, 2013 Or you could be referring to Grand Manan island near the mouth of the bay of fundy Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

At the entrance to Bay of Fundy there is a island that is kind of in a triangle shape. Glory is headed there now.

Nearest town is Eastport Maine. Nearby is Campobello Island N.B. summer home of FDR. Grand Manan is accessible only by ferry.
Gingee Posted July 11, 2013 Author #12 Share Posted July 11, 2013 Thanks That looks like it. I did google it. I wonder how long it is from the bottom of the island to the top? Also will be see the island as we are cruising north into the bay?

At the entrance to Bay of Fundy there is a island that is kind of in a triangle shape. Glory is headed there now. It would have been helpful (ie, clearer) if you had said that instead of off Saint John. Grand Manan is a well known island but I wouldn't call 100 kilometers "just off Saint John". My guess is when you pass the island it will be in the middle of the night given the distance so you probably won't see it. You might have a chance when you sail out of Saint John but again I'm guessing it will be in the dark given the distance.
