kiwirick Posted July 22, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 22, 2013 Several people have mentioned that room service can be ordered from the MDR menu .Does this have to be done before or after a certain time,or can it be done anytime? In the evening that is.
MissShelllly Posted July 22, 2013 #2 Share Posted July 22, 2013 The main dining room must be open when you place the order. The evening menu is posted around lunchtime (not sure exactly when) so if we are thinking about ordering room service, we'll look at the menu during the afternoon so we know what's on offer. Either my DH or I have photographed the menu on our iPad to show the other one if they are feeling under the weather. Michelle.
Krazy Kruizers Posted July 22, 2013 #3 Share Posted July 22, 2013 The menus are posted outside the main dining room starting around Noon. You can also view the dinner menus at any bar/lounge. The dining room opens at 5:15. Most ships require that you place your order within the first hour of the dining room opening for whatever time you want it delivered to your cabin. There are a couple of ships that won't let you place your order until around 6 PM. You need to check with the dining room manager when you get on the ship. RuthC Posted July 22, 2013 #4 Share Posted July 22, 2013 The menus are posted outside the main dining room starting around Noon. Most days I stop there to look on my way down from breakfast. It's almost always posted by then. No need to wait until noon if you're in the area anyway.

sail7seas Posted July 22, 2013 #6 Share Posted July 22, 2013 By cocktail hour, every bar/lounge has copy of the dinner menu. Ask the bartenders for a look at it.

sail7seas Posted July 22, 2013 #8 Share Posted July 22, 2013 Yes,,,,, :) That is why I said "BY' cocktail hour. It certainly can be earlier. Doesn't cocktail hour on HAL begin at 4 P.M?
detroit70 Posted July 22, 2013 #9 Share Posted July 22, 2013 Before we were in a Neptune Suite, where the menus are delivered daily, I just stopped by the MDR and asked for a copy of the dinner menu and they always gave one to me. (DH and I needed to plan ahead because of his dietary restrictions, but I didn't mention that when I asked.) On the Rotterdam this month, I called and asked how late we could place our order from the MDR menu as we were going to be out of our cabin for another event until sometime after 8, and they told us we needed to place our order by around 9. Typhoon1 Posted July 22, 2013 #10 Share Posted July 22, 2013 If you're planning on doing this. Ask one of the Dining room managers to have a menu sent to your cabin. This can be done on a daily basis if you wish.

HAPPY hour is from 4 - 5 on most ships. Too early for us. We have cocktails after 5 before dinner.

richarduk Posted July 23, 2013 #13 Share Posted July 23, 2013 I used to go around hunting for MDR menus. I eventually found it much easier for all to just call room service and ask for a copy to be brought to the room sometime during the day. Every cruise we've been on we've been able to pick up the phone and order anytime the MDR is open, up until about 2100-2115. They always seem to be quite flexible. This is why we have been buying bottles of alcohol for the cabin. This way we can sit out on the verandah - have a cocktail -- and watch the scenery. earljr Posted July 23, 2013 #15 Share Posted July 23, 2013 We totally enjoy HAL's 4-5 cocktail hour but we seldom go to the dining room so it works for us.:)
Crusin Kelly Posted July 24, 2013 #16 Share Posted July 24, 2013 I have had no problems in the past, as I re-board from a full day of port excursions, to stop by the Casino bar and order a "drink of the day" or beer (or 2) and take it back to the balcony . . . THEN after sailaway (and a shower) stop by for the traditional "happy hour" before dinner drink. 17 days . . . . and counting
