Today, August 1, the major cruise lines began posting the numbers of all crimes alleged to have occurred on board their ships since the last quarter of 2010? Will you reference these newly posted statistics as part of planning your next cruise?

As of right now you can find the information on Norwegian Cruise Line's Web site, Royal Caribbean's Web site and the Azamara Club Cruises Web site. So far we have not been able to find the information on Celebrity's Web site or any of the Carnival brand sites.

I chose "some other answer" in the poll.

Just out of curiosity, I will check the web sites of the cruise companies. But, I would certainly not use such information in order to make a determination as to which cruise line I would or would not sail. Personally, I am not overly concerned about crime on the high seas. Crime happens whenever there is a diverse mix of people. One must use common sense and stay alert in order to try to avoid being a victim of crime whether one is on a ship or living in one's community.

I have little sympathy for tourists wearing expensive jewelry and watches and then being robbed of them. That shows little common sense, in my opinion.

I do have sympathy when tourists become victims through no fault of their own, i.e. tour buses being stopped and people robbed. I think the cruise lines do have some responsibility to either provide security (i.e. the tours to Luxor from Safaga where the Egyptian military police escort the buses) or not operate tours in areas that are known to be potentially dangerous.

I may look at the stats posted by the various cruise lines, but out of curiosity, not concern. I feel safer on a cruise ship, than in most ports we visit.
Same for me. But since the question was "Will you reference?" I voted Yes, I'm curious but not too worried.

I agree with you. I feel safer on board than in some U.S. cities by where I live.

I voted "other" because I am concerned about any crime anywhere, including a cruise ship. However, if there are a total of 12 accounts of violent crime on a cruise ship in a quarter, that equates to a miniscule percentage of affected passengers, something in the 1/10,000 range (and it's probably even less than that). My chances of being a crime victim on a cruise ship are negligible.

Was a time when you had to worry about card sharps cheating you at cards but not anymore. I agree that the fear of crime is negligible. I just don't think it would be worth it to most crew members who would probably get fired or passengers who would probably be put off at the next port.
