Where can my kids NOT go on the ship?

Going on Ecstasy end of next week. Two kids DD8 and DS5. While we will go to Camp Carnival orientation, I highly doubt that either of them will want to spend much, if any time there (they both just went to camp for 6 weeks and given how excited they are about this cruise, the first for both of them, I can't imaging them wanting to spend more time in a camp on the ship). So . . . . . . . where can't they go?

 

I know about the obvious:

 

1. Serenity deck

2. 18+ adults only late comedy

3. Casino

4. Stripes nightclub 10pm+

 

Anything else? For example, are any/all of these OK:

 

1. Karaoke (Chinatown Lounge)

2. Party music (Metro Bar)

3. Piano/Sing-along (Neon Bar)

4. Dancing (Casino Bar)

5. Trivia (whole bunch of places)

6. ??

 

I have know idea what they will ultimately like or not like, but just want to know the options available.

I read somewhere that piano bar does an adult show after like 11pm if there is no children in there, but we took the kids (our cousins) everywhere with us on the Carnival Magic last year except for the top 4 and we were even allowed to have the kids in the casino as long as they stayed at the bar area.... weird huh lol. The only show that may be inappropriate to some but didn't bother us as to our lil' cousins have seen way worse on tv with their parents was the Destination to Nowhere show. My sister said it had pretty revealing clothing and some parents may not care for that.

Other than what you mentioned, and obviously crew only areas and sex specific rest rooms, I can't think of anything to add to your list other than the spa/workout areas.

I tell my teenagers they are never ever to go in anybody's stateroom.

We take our kids everywhere but the obvious areas where children are prohibited....We love the piano bar...they love to go sing and dance but we let them go to camp carnival after about 8 as it does tend to get alittle more "flowing" with the drinks and behavior....

Actually, I would tell them not to use the Uni-Sex bathroom unless they are aware of how to lock the entry door.

JMHO but I would not be taking young children into the Piano Bar or any of the bars actually. Lots of drinking, singing (with adult words), couples suggestively dancing, off color jokes - all adult type behavior for a bar. Small children should be enjoying the fun and games with others their age in an appropriate setting. Last Oct. spent time every evening in the Piano Bar - and never saw a child of any age.

They are allowed to go to every one of those activities/locations, with the exception of Serenity/18+ Comedy/Casino/Nightclub after 10pm.

 

As per previous poster regarding bars, if they have a soda card and are unable to find a waiter (or a waiter who will actually bring him a drink,) they will need to go to a bar to get one.

From our what we've seen, most children LOVE Camp Carnival. Their parent's have to "drag" them out when it's time to go!! I'd certainly let them try it out before deciding where else they might go. It's really not the same as the camp they've just been to.

 

I hope someone who has young children will come along and give you more information :)!

 

Otherwise, the list you've made is a good one as far as where they can't go. I'd also keep them out of any bar. We had a situation one cruise where the "cute" five year old pretty much took over the bar until 10 or 11 PM. The parent's seemed clueless that their "adorable son" was not so adorable to the rest of us!

You might want to be careful with the piano bar. Some of the songs can get raunchy.

Although it's called camp carnival, it's really not a camp, it's more of an area where kids can enjoy other kids there own age doing age appropriate activities. You children will be given a sheet that list all the activites that is planned for the day so that they can pick and choose what time frames that they want to be there. Our DS7 loved camp carnival and can't wait to go back in 19 days. One day they got to color there own Camp Canival t-shirt, he loved it so much that he wore it out lol.

My kids do love Camp Carnival. They are 8 and 11 years old and are sailing on their 8th cruise next weekend. We look over the camp schedule together and agree on which activities they will attend. They do enjoy the family comedy, but then want to head up to camp afterwards. One thing I would recommend is getting them to camp the first night or at least early the next day. Besides enjoying camp, they will also have new friends to play with at the pool and around the ship.

I would imagine most of the clubs and piano bar doesn't get too adult like rowdy till after 8 or 9 o'clock???

 

I have been in them for a little bit, but turn in for the evening with my 8 year old daughter at 8:30/9 PM (her bedtime & I stay up a bit more and read).

 

My wife would know when the adult stuff starts as she stays up late. But I would think if the kids are 5 and 8, that there not up running around a ship after 9 or even 10PM?

While they may be allowed in these places, the adults there may not appreciate their presence. On our last cruise I saw almost no kids in these places, except one time I ended up "partners" with a 10 year old at trivia. That was the only trivia round I didn't enjoy. :( Luckily a bunch of other people showed up and by the end we had an adult group. The child looked quite out of place and really couldn't participate anyway as most the questions were over her head.

It seems most kids love Camp Carnival and beg their parents to go. There can can hang out with their peers and do age appropriate activities.

Well I would personally not recommend any of these places for kids under 18 except maybe trivia as long as appropriate language would be used. I know out of disappointment the serenity on Carnival Freedom was not very strict about the 21+ age rule in the serenity as we saw many teenagers lounging. Some were a distraction but most were not. Camp Carnival is great and the best is that in the dining room service can sometimes be very tiring and slow on the kids especially after a long day so they actually eat dinner with the camp if you want. Be aware they charge extra at around 10 or 11pm

I'm just curious how you know they weren't 21?

 

I'm almost 34 but I had someone tell me they were shocked I was married because they thought I was a teenager. Some people look young. But if anyone, regardless of age, was being disruptive you should have complained to the crew.

I'm 36 and still get ID'd on occasion, buying beer or at the casino! :eek:

I remember on the fascination after 10, I think, it was adult karaoke, bc they we able to use profanity in the songs and if the worker running it saw children he would say "just remember this is adult karaoke so it my not be appropriate for everyone"

If I were away from my parents for 6 weeks as a child I would not want to spend any time in camp carnival either.

I can see why they are so excited about this trip, I would be also.

As I am sure you have already done, remind your children never to go anywhere by themselves--always travel in pairs or groups.

 

We (two women) had to deal with a young boy last year on the Ecstasy who was huddled in a chair by himself very late at night outside the buffet area. (This is a small and secluded area--at night--just outside the Pizza Bar.) What were his parents thinking--oh yeah, they weren't.
