gadabout60 Posted August 12, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 12, 2013 My mum and I always go away on holiday at Christmas time and for the last couple of Christmases have cruised P&O - Adonia and Arcadia Looking at cruises and prices for this Christmas I am amazed at the number of better deals on Cunard which I had always considered more up market (and thus more expensive) Only other cruise line I have travelled with is Celebrity So can I ask for thoughts - I know we are all different and want different things but what are the differences Cunard v P&O. Is Cunard more for couples?
majortom10 Posted August 12, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 12, 2013 No it isnt more for couples and think you will find that Cunard is not as upmarket as it used to be even though the info put out by Cunard gives that impression. The main thing to consider is the gratuities they charge is far dearer than P&O and the drinks are eye wateringly dearer than P&O.
gadabout60 Posted August 12, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted August 12, 2013 Thanks Shilly I'll do my sums! On reasonably similar cruises cunard is £1500 cheaper at the moment per person (admittedly I am comparing 14 nights cunard to 19 nights P&O) I'll monitor for a while before booking
Rare Host Sharon Posted August 12, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 12, 2013 As a frequent solo cruiser who has travelled quite a bit on Cunard & P&O, I do find I prefer P&O when on my own, but as you say, we all want different things from a cruise. Cunard is more international with pax from many different countries and the food is more Americanised (huge meat portions, vegs hidden underneath). Cunard also have gentlemen hosts if solo ladies wish to dance. Ultimately - you pay your money, you take your choice though.
Midsomer Madness Posted August 13, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 13, 2013 I would pick Cunard every time :)
