Help me Find the Perfect Dress

My husband and I are going to renew our vows for our 20th anniversary in French Polynesia next year. The ceremony will likely be on a beach.

I want to find a white dress, preferably linen or cotton to wear. Something casual but not a bathing suit cover up. Something that will work with flat sandals. Lined is OK, partially lined is better--keep in mind it's going to be in the 90's and very humid where we'll be doing this.

Mid-calf or longer or above the knee, but not too short. Nothing on or just below the knee, as it's not flattering on me.

I need to be able to wear a bra under it--not a strapless one, but regular, crisscross, or racer back are all fine.

No V-neck. Prefer a scoop, princess, or sweetheart neckline. I'm curvy, so it has to have a defined waist or I'll look pregnant--which at my age is pretty funny to think about. Fitted or even clingy works well with my figure.

I wear a size 6 in dresses. I'll spend $300 or so for the perfect dress, but would love to keep it under $150. (Of course less is better!)

I'd love links to dresses that you might see in your travels around the Interwebs.

Thanks ladies!

I think this is too long (I love it and it's on sale ;-) https://www.madewell.com/madewell_category/DRESSES/shiftdresses/PRDOVR~44154/44154.jsp

This is champagne, not white....

Different style, same fabric: http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/dresses/cocktail/PRDOVR~66737/66737.jsp

Cotton, might be too casual http://www.bodenusa.com/en-US/Clearance/Womens-Petite-collection/WH500-WHT/Womens-White-Fun-Summer-Dress.html#http://www.bodenusa.com/en-US/Clearance/Womens-Dresses/Below-Knee-Dresses/WH500/Womens-Fun-Summer-Dress.html

Ooh, oops, just saw no v-neck either. Poo. That's my best neckline so apparently I drift toward it always ;-)

I would suggest going to google - type in beach wedding dress and click on the 'images' link at the top.

This will give you a page of pictures of those types of dressed and if you click on the picture you like it should take you to a weblink or page of where you might be able to purchase the dress.

This one is pretty but the color is "natural" . Seems to fit every other aspect of your criteria though and is on sale for $86.

This one does come in white. It is half lined and is sheer on the bottom half. It is $88.

This one has a built in bra, so not sure if it would work for you or not. Its very flowy and comes in white. $54

I wear a lot of pure linen in the summer, the wrinkles are part of it's charm. :).

I'm not opposed to a natural fiber blend at all.

So far I haven't really seem what I'm looking for--Ralph Lauren has a gorgeous dress and it's in sale, but it's more of a natural, which is not a good color on me.

I love this dress, not sure if the lace is your liking but the price is pretty darn good!

Or this one:

I love the lacy one, but it's not quite what I'm looking for. I might go buy it for something else I've got coming up though--thanks!!

I really wanted white or a very slightly off-white as our wedding was very simple and I couldn't afford the white gown and assorted accompanying items. We were so broke when we got married that I never even got an actual engagement ring.

Stick with your vision :) (My late DH and I were soooooooo broke we didn't get any kind of honeymoon.... the absolute LAST of our cash went to pay the woman we hired to look after our pets during our VERY simple wedding and reception )

Just a thought...

Try looking on renttherunway.com. I love ordering high end dresses from them for special occasions or events. They have an extensive designer collection and you can rent a beautiful dress, even casual ones, for a fraction of the cost of purchasing it. Their customer service is superb and I've only had one issue of a dress being in questionable condition. They refunded my $$ immediately with no hesitation. Check them out!

I could be way off base but I like a dress that looks like it belongs on a beach. Maybe something like this or a better quality one.

  • 5 weeks later...

Take a look at the REVOLVEclothing.com web site, they have a lot of really different white dresses. Another thought would be to check out some of the wedding dress sites and look at the destination wedding dresses on there, my daughter had a lovely white lace dress for an aruba wedding.

Whatever you do I hope you take this chance at having anything you didn't have at your first wedding and really wanted. I know that if my husband and I ever do a renewal I am going to rock the glitziest tiara I can find.

Congratulations on your vow renewal and 20 years of love.
