DiamondSuiteCruiser Posted September 8, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 8, 2013 Does anyone know why the Century will be arriving late into Vancouver tomorrow? We are in Vancover and I just got an email from Celebrity telling us that the Century will be arriving late, and that boarding will not start until 1:00 pm Sunday. Does anyone know if there are any issues with the ship?
Rare cruisestitch Posted September 8, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 8, 2013 Nothing has been reported on this board -- will look for a news story elsewhere and report back to you. Could be lots of things besides mechanical trouble, the ship might have had to delay somewhere along the line for a medical emergency, for example. Rare cruisestitch Posted September 8, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 8, 2013 No sign of anything else so far in the news. I'm guessing it's weather related.
Iamthesea Posted September 8, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 8, 2013 We are sailing with Diamond and also received the notice. Does anyone know if this delay is typical of Alaskan cruises because of weather - fog? DH pointed out that at least the delay is not next week, while we are coming back in. We have a 10:45 flight.
Rare MicCanberra Posted September 8, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 8, 2013 Just speculation but they may be doing an extra thorough deep cleaning between the two cruises.:D
Bouff Posted September 8, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 8, 2013 According to Captain Albert's Blog a storm was hitting South East Alaska. I wonder if this delayed the Century? It would seem it's only a couple of hours delay. I hope it's nothing more serious as we are on the 15th September sailing.
C 2 C Posted September 8, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 8, 2013 Under the news section of Cruise Critic, it was reported that the Princess ship was involved in a rescue mission together with the coast guard. Perhaps Century was also involved.
Iamthesea Posted September 8, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 8, 2013 DH and I are heading to the pier in about an hour. I looked for a web cam for Canada Place to see if the ship is in (it's 9:30 am in Vancouver) but could not find one. My IPad will not pick up the Century bow cam, either. Could someone please take a look for us?
C 2 C Posted September 8, 2013 #9 Share Posted September 8, 2013 Marine traffic shows that it is there.
RickT Posted September 8, 2013 #10 Share Posted September 8, 2013 Here is the webcam link from North Vancouver. Image is small so it's hard to say that it is the Century but it's definitely an X ship. http://www.northvancouver.com/webcams/cruisecam/
Rare cruisestitch Posted September 8, 2013 #11 Share Posted September 8, 2013 Bow cam? When did Century get a bow cam?
Iamthesea Posted September 8, 2013 #12 Share Posted September 8, 2013 Thank you! Getting ready to leave hotel. I did a search for cruise line web cams, and the Century came up. If there isn't one, guess that explains why I couldn't find it. :D
Rare uktog Posted September 8, 2013 #13 Share Posted September 8, 2013 Bow cam? When did Century get a bow cam? Century had a bridge cam that fed to an internet site years ago (as did all the X ships) but that was discontinued, I think when they changed internet providers around 4 years ago
Northern Aurora Posted September 8, 2013 #14 Share Posted September 8, 2013 Just speculation but they may be doing an extra thorough deep cleaning between the two cruises.:D Why would a deep cleaning delay the arrival of a ship? I've been on a ship which had delayed boarding (but not departure) due to a deep cleaning between cruises. The staff did a deep cleaning with the passengers off the ship. I've also been on a ship which arrived late at the disembarkation port. We had been late leaving the prior port due to a medical emergency, and given somewhat rough seas the ship was unable to make up the time. The late arrival caused problems with travel plans for some of the passengers, and is a situation Celebrity wants to avoid. But since we are also on the September 15th Century sailing, I also am curious as to why the late arrival.
