About Cheers, just to let everyone know....

Are they still including sodas in the 15 count? On our Conquest cruise, all drinks including sodas counted in the total, but then if you hit 15 you could ask the manager to review your 15 drinks and then get another drink if s/he saw that some of your earlier purchases were non-alcoholic. I hated this policy and never wanted to ask the cocktail server or bartender to go through all that, so if I had more than a few sodas throughout the day I hit my 15 early on and simply didn't have any more to drink, even if I wanted something. I'm hoping they've figured a way to do it better by now...

I know when you drink lite beer and its hot out. They go down quick plus on a cruise and most vacations you take breaks. We start at the pool I can put 6 away easy. take a nap at 4 get up at 5 take a shower have 2 more on the balcony waiting for the DW to get ready for dinner. Have 1 at dinner. And put another 6 away between the casino and the cigar bar.

I rarely drink, although technically on vacation I could easily hit the limit on any given day...and I don't stay up late. I typically ask for my drinks in a doubles glass with only one shot or order frou frou drinks...which I bet don't contain a full shot of alcohol. I would think that drinking light beer would also mean that a lot of people could drink 15 over an extended period without getting drunk. Staying hydrated, drinking slowly, and eating along the way even us non-professionals could accomplish it.

I don't use the cheers program because it's a lot cheaper to do it my way. DH and I each order a bottle thru Bon Voyage. We each start off the cruise with free Casino drinks. I make a stiff drink in my Tervis cup (or just bring some rum on ice), and then add it to the weak drinks that I ask the Bartender to make in the Casino. I learned a long time ago that controlling the amount of alcohol being added to my glass is a very, very good thing.

It still boggles me that someone could drink 15 alcoholic drinks in one day....that just seems like a lot to me but I'm not a drinker

I feel the same. But I'm not a drinker either. I wonder what the statistics are on liver damage if you drink 15 drinks a day? I don't drink 15 Diet Pepsi's in a day, not even on a cruise.

The liver has remarkable healing ability. As long as you don't drink like that nonstop, a week or so of "heavy drinking" isn't going to hurt an otherwise healthy person.

It depends on the type of drinks, the spacing of time between drinks, and individual tolerance. 15 "normal" drinks (lite beer, simple cocktails) spaced out during an entire day isn't much. Now if you're drinking 15 shots of 151 or Everclear, you will be incapacitated:eek:

Why do so many non drinkers jump on a thread about the cheers program?

I know...I guess I should go on the casino threads and tell everyone how I simply can't imagine wasting so much time and money gambling. Or perhaps I'll just SKIP the gambling threads since I don't gamble and have nothing useful to add!!!

15 drinks in 24 hours wouldn't be enough for me on vacation. RCI's is unlimited, and it's up to the bartenders to cut off those who have had too much (as it should be). Not everyone has the same tolerance, and not everyone drinks at the same pace. Putting a blanket 15 drink cap on the program is the wrong thing to do.

Luckily the yearly booze-cruise group I'm with has the old open-bar package so we will not have to worry about it. If CCl ever tries to bring us under the Cheers rules I will be heading to RCI for our annual bacchanalia. :D

My family usually does the open bar card and when they to book for 2014 they were told since the ship they were booking has Cheers they were not offering the open bar card.

Then it would seem that our booze cruise next year will be on RCI. Thanks for the heads up!

My next 3 day is coming up and I usually spend around $400 in booze on these so this would held reduce that a bit. I have heard that if you keep track and get to 14 drinks, you can just buy them after that and then before you go to bed just get your 15th.

Too bad for me the cheers isn't offered on the Inspiration.

That is what some of the bartenders advised me to do because I can hit 15 by 8pm and still know my where abouts no matter what some people on this thread think. Wife doesn't do a bad job on the 15 either and she drinks martini's. Wife 74, me 75 and perfect health.

that you WILL get cut off with the Cheers program after you order your 15th drink of the day!! :( I got off the Glory a couple of weeks ago and someone I met onboard and hung out with had the program. One night, he reached his 15th drink and even though he wasn't drunk (wasn't even tipsy), the bartender wouldn't serve him another even when he said he'd pay for it just like if he didn't have the program. He could have all the soda he wanted, just no more alcoholic drinks. I just thought I'd let people know so no one gets upset or disappointed on their cruise!!

Glad to hear the crew are following the rules. ;)

Thanks for all the great info. I was going to get the Cheers program. But now that I know I cant "buy" drinks after I reach 15. I'll pass.. 15 is quite easy to do in a full day. I kinda figure I'll hit it around dinner time. Then what will I do for the evening??

What I don't understand about the 15 drinks is this - how the heck many calories is everyone consuming? WOW!

probably less than some buffet 'grazers', but who cares? to each their own.

how about an 'ask your doctor if you should eat wcmc every day for a week, and if you really need more bacon than is served' t-shirt?

that's not the topic of this post, which is relevant to those who choose to elect for this option.

I have read several answers as to buying drinks. Some have said that no, you can't once you reach 15, others have said that you can buy drinks if you do so before 15. So, as long as drinks are purchased before you use the 15th on the program it's ok? Do you tell them you are buying this one & not to count it towards the program? We will be on the Elation in November & DH & I are considering getting Cheers. I doubt we will go over the 15, but just in case, I want to know what the options are. Thanks!

in short, yes.

and you can also buy things which are 'not included' like buckets of beer outside of the cheers program, and not have them count against the quota.
