About Cheers, just to let everyone know....

I agree about the limit. If it is marketed as an unlimited drink package, they shouldn't have a limit. But, since there is one, i try to work with it. Carnival needs to decide if they want to be the "fun ships" or the "family" ships. As a single person sometimes i feel as a forgotten consumer.

Are they still including sodas in the 15 count? On our Conquest cruise, all drinks including sodas counted in the total, but then if you hit 15 you could ask the manager to review your 15 drinks and then get another drink if s/he saw that some of your earlier purchases were non-alcoholic. I hated this policy and never wanted to ask the cocktail server or bartender to go through all that, so if I had more than a few sodas throughout the day I hit my 15 early on and simply didn't have any more to drink, even if I wanted something. I'm hoping they've figured a way to do it better by now...

They aren't supposed to count nonalcoholic drinks. For soda, they just give you the glass now.

When I was last on the Victory, I could not buy a bucket of beer. With Cheers, I could get four beers, but I had to wait 5 minutes for each one. They also would not permit one to purchase anything after the 15 drink limit was reached (or before).

My friends just got off the Magic this past Sunday, so these comments are based on their current experience, but mirror my experience on both the Breeze and the Conquest earlier this year.

If you tell them you want to start buying your own drinks at # 13, they cannot cut you off until you stop buying them and get to 15 on the program.

Not accurate according to past experience. You cannot purchase any individual drinks separate from the Cheers program. You can't even purchase someone else a drink if you have the Cheers program.

My family usually does the open bar card and when they to book for 2014 they were told since the ship they were booking has Cheers they were not offering the open bar card.

I've never heard of an open bar card other than the Players Club card on any of the 14 Carnival ships that I've been on.

And to add some specifics of my experience with both the Cheers Program and the Players Club. Players Club drinks have never been counted toward my total. I have mixed the two in the evening while in the Casino.

I will order a Players Club drink while at a machine and when I get tired of playing I'll go sit at the Casino bar and order a drink on my Cheers program....sit there until I finish that one, go back out to the Casino and start playing again and order a drink as soon as a bar waiter comes by....

Also, the morning Bloody Mary drink specials are doubles and are still under the $10 limit. But after noon you can't order a double Bloody Mary because the 2 shots of vodka put the price of the drink over the $10 limit. You can order a single shot Bloody Mary in a tall glass, then wait 5 minutes and order a shot of vodka to add to your drink.

Edit to Add: When ordering drinks on the Players Club card I have had to make sure that the bar waiter knew that I also had the Cheers program and please be sure to ring it up as a Players Club drink and not a Cheers drink. So pay attention to those receipts before you sign them.

I feel the same. But I'm not a drinker either. I wonder what the statistics are on liver damage if you drink 15 drinks a day? I don't drink 15 Diet Pepsi's in a day, not even on a cruise.

I've never flamed anyone on these boards, but I guess this is kind of a first for me then. This post just strikes a nerve:mad:. I am on vacation, and not in the midst of another 60 hour work week, and don't think I want to be counting my intake.

If I am conducting myself in a gentlemanly manner, mellow and courteous to all guests and crew, who cares how much I have to drink?

I also run between 4 and 15 miles a day six days a week at 51 years old, so don't worry about my health. Let's go for a long run then head to the bar - my beer versus your diet pepsi's and lets see who is feeling better at the end of the night.

Again I wish there was a "LIKE" button!!

What I don't understand about the 15 drinks is this - how the heck many calories is everyone consuming? WOW!

Understand what? Its a vacation people. Next it will be illegal to purchase a soda thats larger than 16 oz. in New York, never mind it already is.

Call in a coincidence, but I was just talking to my youngest son yesterday morning about nutrition when he was begging me to pick up fried chicken from his favorite local fast food restaurant this weekend. He is in the beginning of a new Soccer season, and conditioning is a priority.

A four piece chicken with fries from that place was almost 3,000 calories. My favorite lite beer is 125 calories per 12 oz bottle, which equates to 1,875 calories if I downed 15.

One could question which one is worse? But again, it's VACATION. I don't intend to count my calories in the buffet line or dining room any more than I plan to conduct a bottle count.

The calorie count for 1oz of distilled liqour is 80prf=64c, 90prf=73c, 100prf=82c. But remember that they use a overfilled 1.5oz pour on the ship.

And as for the 15 drink limit based on a persons level of intoxication.......that's really just a smoke screen.......is there anyone who doesn't believe that the 15 drink limit is an economic decision.......

Carnival is banking on most people not coming close to the 15 drink limit and those that do, it's just not economical to keep serving someone who as already been drinking for $3.19 per at the Cheers price.

"You can't stay drunk all day if you don't start drinking in the morning".

Chill people, we are on vacation, not driving anywhere and most of us only have ourselves to take care of on this cruise. I am a social drinker and that means about once a month, I drink. I can handle 15 drinks in one day and not be drunk, tipsy but not drunk. The secret is pace yourself, eat something and swim and relax. Before you know it the cruise will be over and you will be home and can be normal again.

Agree, but do I have to swim & relax?

Thank you for posting the alcohol calculator. If you put in 13 beers and 2 wines in 14 hours for a 200 pound male, you are at .06... Certainly not drunk. Probably got a little buzz but under the law not drunk, so I could certainly see people hitting 15 and still be okay to have another drink or two on a cruise.

I think people are kinda brainwashed when it comes to alcohol. They are brought up going to a strict Christian church that says drinking is the devil tben get on the soap box and preach about it. They dont realize the preachers teaching it are a lot of times closet drinkers I have seen many.

I think it's stupid for Carnival cut people off after they exhaust their Cheers limit. A cruise line should not play Big Brother if everyone are being respnsible with their drinking. After all, it's extra revenue for them. They'd just need to use the money to bring back lido deck bands, instead of giving the CEO yet another bonus.

I still say 15 is a good amount. If you don't agree, there are some tactics you can use to stretch the 15-drink limit.

1. Get Fosters "oil cans". They're 750 mL. That's 25 oz, so you essentially get 2 standard beers for only 1 Cheers drink.

2. Get Long Island ices teas. The ones on Carnival are super-strong, so it's like 2 or 3 drinks for only 1 Cheers drink.

3. If you speak a foreign language, befriend a bartender who speaks it as their native language. You might get "accidental" overpours. Worked for me.

4. Buy beverages in souvenir glasses. They're not part of the Cheers program, so you can get them without using up your limit. It'll cost you, though.

5. On port days, drink in port. It's cheaper and more fun to try local beers that are hard to find or non-existent in the US.

6. If you're going to bed soon and you still have Cheers drinks left for that day, get them unopened and save them for the next day.

7. Just remember to stop while it's still fun. :D

Now this is key (In my Hubie Brown, NBA analyst voice) It;s about getting the most bang for your buck. Mixed drinks are weak on the ship IMHO. So get the most liquor you can into one glass lol:D:D

Ohhhh what to do, what to do. The cheap ass in me is deathly afraid of spending entirely too much on alcohol and is contemplating the Cheers program, but the part of me that wants to have a hassle-free honeymoon fancies just winging it and paying as I go or ordering bottles. I reach 15 and get cut off and I'll be livid, but if I calculate my costs at the end and would have saved with Cheers, I'll be poopy pants because that probably means I broke the budget.

Is there a menu somewhere of what drinks ARE included in the program?

And, likewise, a list of what drinks ARE NOT included?

Thanks.

From my research I'm fairly certain any singular alcoholic beverage that has a menu listed price of less than $10 qualifies, minus certain "specialty coffees". Groups of beverages, such as a bucket of beer, are not available on this program.

At age 59 here can I hear an AMEN :)

FYI: http://www.beer100.com/beercalories.htm

Wife and I are social to non drinkers EXCEPT ON A CRUISE, did some real life research and found we actually save 200 to 300$ per cruise using cheers.
