About Cheers, just to let everyone know....

We just got off the Liberty a few weeks ago. We had the cheers package. I had every intention of drinking my 15 drinks every day, but fell short! I think it was all the food I ate - didn't leave room for much more. But - my husband did hit 15 a few times. I was not with him at the time and the bartender said "If Ms. Julie was with you we would just use her card". My husband didn't ask and was fine with being at 15 and was ready to call it a night anyway, but just thought that was interesting they offered it. Also - a few times we ordered virgin cocktails for my son. The bartenders knew it was for him (he did not have bottomless bubbles as he does not drink soda) and we had every intention to pay for them, but they just used our cheers card for them. One time when my husband ordered a drink for himself and a virgin one for my son thinkiing they would take his sail and sign and use cheers for one and charge for the other they just told him to sign one receipt and come back in 5 minutes to sign the other one. We didn't argue about it as it was just done that way. Just wanted to share our experiences. We think cheers was worth it for us and would do it again. We averaged 10 drinks per day per person and those were a combo of beer and all other drink concotions available.

This is all great info so thanks to everyone. We are going on a New Year's cruise so I am thinking that it would be beneficial to do it unless Carnival decides too many will do it on a new year's cruise and not offer it.

I have only done it once before on Celebrity. They let you bring both cards up to the bar and order drinks if a bar waiter isn't around. Anyone know if you are allowed to do this on Carnival or do both people always have to be present to order?

Thanks!

It still boggles me that someone could drink 15 alcoholic drinks in one day....that just seems like a lot to me but I'm not a drinker

If I could actually consume 15 drinks of anything in a day, I could drink 15 of Carnivals "alcoholic" drinks. I can never taste or feel any alcohol. At home it doesn't take much for me to feel tipsy. One glass of wine and I feel it. I get NOTHING from the DOD or any other drink except they do taste good.

Beer would be a whole different story for me, but the alcoholic drinks, NADA - ZILCH - ZIPPO.

I know you all think my name would indicate otherwise. It's deceiving.

We were able to have one person bring both cards up to the bar and had no problems. Without even having to give them a wave to show where we were or anything.

Yes, you can do this! Also, un the Miracle in January, my boyfriend hit his 15 drink limit, but I was only at 7 or 8, so they let him order drinks using my package. I don't think they're technically supposed to do this, but this bartender didn't have a problem with it.

DOD do not have much alcohol. Mostly fruit punch.

actually dont know if it has been mentioned or not. But i was playing craps and dealer bought me a couple beers that didnt count towards my limit. I also heard that if you want to purchase some BEFORE you reach the limit they dont count towards your limit. BUT had to be before you reach the limit

The rules say you're not allowed to share drinks. I can usually drink quite a bit but I've lost a lot of weight this year and I find that it doesn't take as much to get me a bit tipsy  so I intend to share mine with my DH because I know he'll hit his 15 max way before me!

I was thinking along the same lines, DH might but I am sure I won't. ;)

Have to agree. He is a professional!

Drunk

umm, no.......maybe some of those drinks were new ones he thought he would try, and didn't like them.....and didn't drink them.........that's what I did..........with the cheers, you get to try new drinks, and if you don't like them, you haven't thrown away $10+ on a new drink that you tried and found out was icky!!!

don't judge, lest you be judged

wow... 4 year old thread resurrected to chastise someone... think this might be a record

LOL. I didn't realize how old this thread was until I was several pages into it and reached the comment about Cheers not including specialty coffees. Then I said to myself, wait a minute, it does too. Duh, me. Looked at the date on that comment.

I know right? I don't get how this even happens!?!

It happens because posters are chastised about not searching the boards before asking a question or for starting a new thread when there has been a thread in the past about the topic.

Here's an interesting link to calculate your blood alcohol level. Just thought this was interesting after reading various opinions on the amount of drinks various people can drink each day!

You planning on driving the ship? Lol. That's part of the fun of cruising. You don't have to drive home. ;)

I know how it happens but there are a zillion threads/posts on Cheers, ones that are more recent than 4 years. The poster that resurrected the thread did not ask a question, he was disagreeing with a old post, thats not even relevant anymore.

Nobody said they all have to be the same. :). I'll stick with my casino drink card.....haven't heard of limits there....heck they probably encourage more "unofficially" :))

You are limited to 15 on the DOU card as well...

This has probably been posted but we had the cheer's program on our last cruise and I think it worked out pretty well. Remember it isn't just alcohol drinks that count - bottled water, milk shakes, specialty coffees etc soda. We don't usually get off the ship at the ports since we have done them many times and so on port days we just carry on with our drink cards. (only problem we actually have to walk to the bar from our pool chair :o since there aren't as many waiters around ...just kidding ) We never reach our 15 drink limit but it still probably works out for us as the drink prices have gone up significantly since we started cruising.

Some of those things can be a small volume, shots, martini's, very short mixed drinks, etc.

My husband and I will do some day drinking, take a nap, shower/have dinner then do some night drinking/night club and getting to 15 is easy to do that way without being visibly drunk.

We live in Denver at high altitude and I know for sure that my husband can drink 15 cocktails and not be stumbling drunk. Tipsy sure, but not drunk.

We order a bottle of vodka to the room too so we have room drinks in the suite sometimes along with cheers. There are ways to get around getting cut off by buying drinks before you hit 15. I've seen it done personally but it may depend on the crew.

On my last cruise I was given a card with my DOU card that stated the limit is 15 per day. It was on the Fantasy out of Mobile in May.

it has nothing to do with being chastised. People SHOULD search the boards for answers and information but its silly to reply and chastise a poster who posted 4 years ago. that makes no sense

basic common sense

  • if you have a question, search the threads to look for an answer.
  • if you find your answer... great
  • if you dont find your answer, THEN open a new thread to ask your question

This was strictly commenting on a post. not looking for an answers or information

Not a lot if I'm on vacation. If I'm in vacation mode I can drink all day and easily drink more that plus water mixed in throughout the day...

Husband and I had the cheers program on the Breeze in June, and on the Ecstacy in August. Was never drunk, reached my 15 several times. Was not cut off on the Breeze, drank 18 one day. It is 6am to 6am. The Ecstacy was told when I got close to my 15. I'm not a heavy drinker. 15 drinks spread over an 18 hour day is easy to do.

I have to agree, we had the cheers program on the Breeze in May, I was keeping track of my drinks & 14 was the most I had (bourbon & diet coke) and was not tipsy. These are spread out from early morning until after midnight it only works out to about a drink an hour.

Carnival would probably sell a lot more of these if the only ones that wanted it had to buy it. my wife is not much of a drinker so it is pretty much wasted for her. I would buy it for myself on every cruise if I didn't have to buy it for her too. Some people will say " well you would probably share" maybe, but so what? It's a 15 drink maximum regardless of whether I drink all 15 or she has 2or 3 of mine.
