I'm all for the ban, but I had to answer this. You cruise out of FL correct? Those of us that cruise out of NJ and MD more than FL can tell you the outside decks are closed at least one day each direction depending on the weather. The wind in the Atlantic can be pretty strong. That said, the pool deck area is not usually closed, just the "outside" deck areas. So, it would be rare that those areas would be closed. The pool deck area is covered down each side and more protected from wind.

Yes thank you!

I wasn't actually thinking of covered pool deck area as "outside," but I guess that is where the smoking zones are, huh? I think my non-smoking status is showing!

Not trying to be funny- can't you just step inside your cabin and "smoke" your ecig? I vape (volcano inferno) and its an easy matter to vape inside, that said- for all practical purposes... the amount of steam that is let out is so minimal it can't possibly reach another balcony, so why not just vape on yours anyway? If I can get away with doing it on a plane (I pull my blanket up to my face and exhale into it) you can for sure do it on an open air balcony.

You are correct, but being in the emergency services field for so many years I just have a really hard time being a rule breaker. I know I could do it, but I won't, but that's just me.:)

Looking at your signature, do you really want to be enjoying a $10-$20 cigar and a nice glass of ??? and have the place filled with people smoking their nasty cigarettes? I know my local cigar shop does not allow people to smoke cigs in their shop because it takes away from the aroma of a nice cigar. Was on Navigator not long ago enjoying a nice Dominican and a glass of Knob Creek when these 2 people came in and sat at the couch next to me and lit up some foul smelling cigs. I politely asked them to move to the other side of the room as it was just me in there when they arrived and they got all holier than thou and told me they had the right. I promptly told them that this was the connoisseur club not some cheap pool hall and that it was meant for cigar smokers. They quickly extinguished their cigs and left. I got a thumbs up from John crew member working the club.

Aaahh, a smoker FINALLY agreeing that cigarette smoke is "nasty and foul smelling"! :) All the other smokers laugh about the n0n-smokers "acting" like it bothers them. It never occured to me that cigar smokers didn't like cigarette smoke, either! :D

thank you for taking the time to get these answers...may not like them...but not much we can do about it...sigh :(

Really? , it seems like RCI is doing a lot to improve the smoking areas, I had no idea they were doing all this.

Don't you love how people who smoke in their cars flick their ashes outside and then throw their butts outside, because THEY don't want the stinky stuff in THEIR car?!?!?!?

I like the fact that the OP went almost out of his way to get answers for everybody on here. And even gave us a little bit of Quantum info I have not seen released yet. Though it has zero bearing on me.

I am one who absolutely hates smoking. I grew up around my parents, grand parents, aunts and uncles who smoked minimum of a pack a day. Being around it for so long I guess gave me somewhat of an immunity to the smell of it but ever since more recent times when my grandparents and parents have just quit cold turkey, that immunity has fallen off a little.

Getting rid of a cigar lounge, in my opinion, is not a smart idea. Even though I hate smoking, cigars do not bother me as they actually smell good.

And I'm not trying to spark any controversy here, but I guess from a business standpoint, in a society where smoking is evolving into a "taboo" of sorts, you have to look to the future and what that holds. And with all the negativity surrounding smoking now-a-days, it's only fitting more and more restrictions are starting to fall into place.

It's a double edged sword is what it all boils down to.

Sailing with RCCL from Hawaii to Ensenada, we had almost 3 days where the outside area were closed due to high winds and rough seas.

In our experience that is highly unusual -- in 34 cruises (9 Hawaii) we've only had outdoor decks closed once for a day in Alaska. (78 knot winds)

I think you were unlucky :) - our we've been lucky ;)

What I would like to know, and, I guess this is the thread to ask it...

About those "E-Cigarettes". I am allergic to cig smoke.

I have yet to be around a person smoking those E-cigs.

What does the E-cig smoke smell like?

I heard it is a vapor, right,

and, maybe it does not have a smell? I seriously don't know.

I have not even seen anyone smoking them as yet.

Anyone else know the answer to that?

1. ecigs are Vapor. They are NOT smoke. I won't debate the ability to be allergic to smoke, but I do know it highly irritates senses in many. I doubt you would have the same experience with an ecig.

2. eCigs come in all different "flavors". I smoke one as well as many of my friends who have quit smoking. None of us smoke a traditional tobacco flavor. Most smoke more fruity flavors (Watermelon, Cherry, etc). I also enjoy Vanilla and Cappuccino. The cappuccino can have a heavy coffee smell so I tend to only use that one at home. The others are quite pleasant.

We all did start with tobacco assuming that would be what we wanted, but we realized quickly the other flavors were very enjoyable. It's like an air freshener.

Thanks.

I thought/knew they were a vapor.

Then, if that is the case, and, they are NOT smoke, why are there restrictions on them?

I do not pretend to understand, I just know my sinus's "close up" around

ciggie smoke, and, I am really sensitive to cigarette smoke.

Same thing around cats and, rabbits...I avoid them too.

Yes but I used to live in CT. I also have cruised all over the World including Antarctica. Maybe I attract all the good weather.

Yes, and guess what - cigarette smokers often don't like the smell of cigars. What's your point? He thinks cigarettes are nasty. I think cigars are nasty. If I'm in a casino though and smell a cigar, I just move to a different location.

I am a smoker. While not happy about the change in policy regarding smoking, life goes on and corporate has to do what it needs to do.

After it was announced, I sent an e-mail stating that when I cruised on the Princess Crown last January, they had a station set up next to the smoking section that had coffee/tea/juice each morning. It was well supplied with a crew member constantly checking on it and policing the area. I really appreciated it and hoped they would consider doing the same thing.

Only response I got was an auto-reply that my e-mail was received.

The lady across the lobby here can't stand any kind of fragrance, smoke, or well, just about anything. I puffed away on my e-cig and had her come in the room. She was not bothered at all. If she can take it, anyone can!:D

I enforce financial regulations, I would have a hard time breaking the rules too. I think this is one rule that needs to be changed.

Mr. Cigar King is the cigar smoker. I just picked the name Mrs. CK because it amused me. I smoke cigarettes and will hang out in the cigar lounge with Mr. CK or if the weather is too bad to smoke outside. The air scrubbers in the lounge seems powerful enough to clear the different kinds of smoke enough to not annoy anyone.

Now I have a good excuse to spend more time and money in the casino, anyone got a light.

E-cig "smoke" is vaporized glycol (not water vapor, as some people claim), the same stuff used in theatrical fog in stage shows and haunted houses. By itself, it has the same somewhat sweet scent of theatrical fog, but much fainter. However, most e-cigs also have added fragrances, which range from mint and cotton candy to buttered popcorn or (worst of all) tobacco.

On our last cruise we were in a piano bar (non smoking of course) and half the passengers at the bar had e-cigs! It was kind of surreal. The player told us on the 2nd night he was nervous when we all pulled out our devices and he saw the vapor- because he hates smoke. He was shocked to find none of it actually reached him or had odor. I'm finding people walk around smoking them everywhere here, even in stores where a cigarette would clearly be illegal.

This is why many communities are looking into banning e-cigs in many public places. That "vapor" isn't something I want to be breathing in. Pretty naive to pretend that vapor is nothing.

Totally false. Once, I spent about an hour in the Cigar Bar (Connoisseur's Club) on a Royal Caribbean Voyager Class ship because we were with friends who wanted to smoke a cigar. The next day I awoke with a hacking cough as did another friend who was with us. Awful, just awful.
