Kennedy to Fort Lauderdale on a Saturday night?

We're planning to drive from Kennedy Space Center to our pre-cruise hotel in Fort Lauderdale on a Saturday night. Do we need to worry about traffic on I95 or should we take the Turnpike where available?

Thanks :)

Traffic is always bad in I95 but I'd still take it down from KSC.

You are nowhere near the turnpike until you reach Ft Pierce. I-95 is the best option. You didn't say when, there is widening construction on I-95 from Melbourne to Ft. Pierce. There should not be major delays, but the area is under construction. Saturday traffic is usually pretty light even once you reach Palm Beach.

Good Sailing

Thanks for the info. Planning the drive in about 3 weeks. I've read some pretty nasty stories about the traffic so want to be sure I plan accordingly.

We just did that drive (actually it was Virginia to Fort Lauderdale) this past Saturday. There were no work crews on a Saturday and even in most (if not all, my memory is shot) of the work zones the posted speed limit was 60 mph (which meant everyone went 70). We did cut over to the turnpike because there are fewer exits/on ramps compared with I-95 from West Palm Beach south and I find that an easier drive (especially at night after 13 hours in the car :D) but you should be fine on 95 if you don't want to pay the tolls on the turnpike.
