No shareholder's credit with beverage package (perk)

I booked the Reflection several months ago and took advantage of a promo which gave us the Classic Beverage Package (for "free") as part of the booking.

Yesterday I submitted for the $100 OBC on that sailing owing to the 100+ shares of stock we have. This was their reply:

Thank you for your email.

As offers are not combinable, the requested shareholder’s onboard credit in the amount of $100.00 cannot be applied to reservation ******** because there is a $616.00 beverage discount already applied.

I did not think that there would be an issue between the shareholder's credit and the beverage promo... guess I was WRONG! :(

Yes, not many things are combinable with the drink pkg perk, but I'd take that any day over $100.

We also had to pass on a lower rate which popped up ($200) for 55+ earlier this week on the AS cabin we booked as we had the beverage deal. All that went out the door anyway when a hump CS finally came up for grabs (no special rates on that category to dwell over)! ;)

I sold my shares in the company. I didn't have stock just to get OBC's but it was once a nice perk. Not so much anymore. When I wanted to take some cash out of my stock account, I looked at the various options that I had, and the fact that NOTHING seems to combinable with the Shareholder Benefit and there ALWAYS seem to be some sort of promotion reducing the cost of the cruise, that fact entered strongly into my decision to get rid of the stock.

We've been on four X cruises in the past year and I think we've received the stockholder credit on at least three of them. We also had prepaid gratuities and large OBC's as well as discounted (group) cabin rates from our TA. I'm pretty careful to ask where each "perk" offered by a TA is from.

We'll be on a TA in a couple of weeks...free gratuities, OBC from TA, low (group) rate on AQ cabin and the $250 stockholder credit was just confirmed.

Hi Tom,

The combining of the shareholder benefit, with most anything other promo, has not been allowed for several years. There have been a few promos which allowed combining, but they are rare. I do not believe anything is currently available, which allows the shareholder benefit to be combined.

This is disappointing, especially as the Carnival brands also stopped combining a few years ago, and has since re-instated the policy. As a result, we've been unable to take advantage of the shareholder benefit for quite some time.

I wish Celebrity would reconsider this decision, but as they are hyper-focused on the bottom line, I doubt it will return anytime soon.

I've gotten it three time this year combined with FL residents discount. Maybe it's not a real discount but still fell into the combinable category...

Of our 4 Celebrity cruise thus far, 3 have been eligible for SH bonus, including one that we booked at a senior rate. Denial of this benefit occurred for our Silhouette cruise last year because it was booked early so there was an OBC early-booking benefit and for our upcoming Silhouette cruise because we took advantage of a prepaid gratuities offer (not a 1-2-3).

It never hurts to ask to have the benefit applied, but I totally understand the policy and have no problems being denied. Actually, my most recent rejection letter advised I could have the shareholder benefit applied if I chose to have the pre-paid gratuities cancelled. Hmmmm... 13 nights of suite gratuities = 390 vs. 200 shareholder credit??

The (Carnival) Freedom cruise I took in August was FREE (casino comp). The Sensation which we sailed on last month was also free (same reason). We're on the Freedom again next month - again a FREE GS cabin.

... yet ... I received shareholder's OBC on both the prior sailings and have already received confirmation of same for the next.

It would seem that Carnival is pretty comfortable with doling out shareholder's OBC !

You can use your Carnival shareholders credit with other OBC's but not with RCI. We received the shareholder credit for our fist 3 cruises but won't get it for the next 4 as we have other benefits worth much more than the shareholder obc.

This is one of the things you need to factor in when deciding on a cruise line in price comparisons.

We are not usually too concerned with dollar for dollar comparisons when planning a cruise. Specific cabin selection is right up there... such that on some ships if a particular cabin or two are not available we'll look for another date or ship. Suite perks and past guest programs are also a factor, with itinerary coming in (except in some cases) lower on the totem pole.

One of the positive factors which Celebrity has going for it is definitely the smoke free casinos... KUDOS to Celebrity for their forward thinking! :)

It does make you wonder the value of retaining the shares although we have only used the shareholder credit once with Carnival. Princess's prices increased when Celebrity's dropped. We moved and have been with Celebrity since.

Bookings as of 8/1 can combine a perk with obc from an on board booking. I wonder if it also applies to ones it on board. I asked on board yesterday and they seemed to think yes, but you know how that goes....lol

Shareholder credit has its own rules unfortunately. Any other benefit, obc, beverage package senior discount etc, you have to choose which is best for you. I have unclaimed obc available at time of booking as the shareholder benefit was worth more.

It wasn't a lot more but the difference was $50.

I'm wondering the same thing myself. On the Summit I booked a 2014 New England/Canada itinerary under the new rules, and got a nice OBC. I'm not expecting a "1-2-3" or "Pick Your Perk" promo on this itinerary, so I'd be more than happy with a $250 Shareholder Benefit to squander aimlessly.

The language on the Reserved Passage flyer back page says "Combinable with 1 additional offer you may choose", or on the front page "Combinable with any 1 other special offer you choose." It doesn't say "Perk" or "Benefit" - it says "offer." How does an "Offer" (special or otherwise) differ from a "Perk" or "Benefit"? There are other nuances here as well.

Of course, it would also be nice if the flyer language was consistent front and back. What's the difference between "1 additional offer" and "any 1 other special offer ? In my line of work, I'd be crucified for this kind of imprecision - but it certainly keeps these boards humming ;).

I do see in another discussion a couple of months ago that "Celebrity" indicated the Shareholder Benefit is another Offer :) :).

Shareholder credit is considered another offer. It is combinable with the onboard program. A guest can book onboard, get the OBC with a reduced deposit and then can combine with Shareholder credit.

who knew?? Somehow...I thought it was an "apple and an orange"...guess not. I actually cancelled and re-booked an up-coming SA cruise to get the 1'2'3 deal...and I will probably come out ahead...but I had no idea I would be putting my stock holder benefit "off the table". Thanks for the "head's up"...I was actually thinking about doing something similar for an upcoming T/P next year...if the offer came up....glad to know this! LuAnn

I would really like to hear from someone who has successfully exercised the Additional Offer clause under the NEW onboard booking Reserved Passage rules.

I'm a bit skeptical until it actually happens without jumping through hoops. It would be reassuring if they updated the Shareholder Benefit terms and conditions to comply with the new Reserved Passage rules.

RCL/Celebrity also denied our shareholders credit because we had a free beverage package for our upcoming cruise. We had no problem getting the OBC shareholders credit with our recent Carnival cruise. so, we were totally taken by surprise.

Yes, they're definitely being "cheap". No other conclusion I can come to...
