stormynow Posted November 9, 2013 #151 Share Posted November 9, 2013 Why are there still comments about Capt Morgan being removed when it has been explained and found NOT to be true. Only a rumour. Even John Herald had in his blog and in facebook about these things getting out of control with talk that is baseless. He then reiterated how it is not going anywhere and has had no plans to go any where. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Forums mobile app What do u mean a rumour. I have personally been on CCL recently and no Capt Morgan. What can't u understand about that? U call that baseless. When was your last CCL cruise and did u see and CM or Gosling? cricketgirl28 Posted November 9, 2013 #152 Share Posted November 9, 2013 I feel like they are doing this with several brands of alcohol. On our first cruise my husband and I discovered Finlandia because that was the main vodka they would use to mix our drinks. It was also the vodka used for the martini tastings, however after cruising this past September I was disappointed to find that Finlandia was not on the menu anymore OR in the shops. very disappointed :(

My expereince you either LOVE or HATE it. Very few just say "meh..." when it comes to the Captain! ;) Edited November 12, 2013 by happy cruzin

mrsglovesapg Posted November 21, 2013 #171 Share Posted November 21, 2013 So, I work in the industry and can vouch that Captain is about $3.50 a bottle more than Bacardi oak heart. Supposedly it's supposed to taste the same. I personally think Captain is 10X better than oak heart but if that's all they're offering and spiced rum is all I drink, I would suck it up and order. Yet again, it's all about than darn bottom line!
SailingRNC Posted November 21, 2013 #172 Share Posted November 21, 2013 Just off the Ecstacy 11/14 - 11/18. There was plenty of CM at the bars on board. TwinPrincessMermaids Posted November 21, 2013 #174 Share Posted November 21, 2013 (edited) It's always about the bottom line for all cruise lines. In these lean times for Carnival, the examination gets to levels beyond normal. On purely a conversational point, I'd like to join in regarding the 'bottom line' thing as well. On this last cruise, admittedly 3 weeks post "Triumph" incident with low bookings, CCL seemed much more 'desperate' than it had in the past. (It did have hard sells before but you could just tell the pressure was tremendous on the staff to sell sell sell and the downsizing caused strain on even the buffet staff and everywhere you looked they were over worked and exhausted and frustrated. One MDR server was overheard saying "Where is my help? I have no one to help?" and it was so abandoned for breakfast that morning, I got up and poured my own coffee off the drink station in the MDR several times. It reflects on CCL corp to me, the guys worked as hard as they possibly could.) Ok so to the bottom line, if CCL has to save 3.50, there is some serious desperation going on. On the other hand, other cruise lines that charge more for their fares but offer a lot more too, and at least one allows guests to bring as much of literally any beverage on board that they want. I was pretty impressed with this since it was a first for me. So if the company made the decision not to carry what you wanted as their inventory (which is of course their decision what to stock), you could still choose to bring your favorite on board with you. People always talk about how cheap it is to cruise CCL. It is, but that is because they upsell as much as they can with warm bodies once they fill the ship, and that includes a major part of alchohol sales. so they find cheaper booze and still charge ridiculous amounts to get those on board credits way up. I guess I'm now of the opinion that I would rather cruise a few less days, get way, way more for my money, and be able to have the freedom to bring literally anything on board that I want with me whether it be from the states or the islands. CCL is squeezing the fist of control tighter and tighter and a lot of us are feeling the squeeze. Unfortunately, the more they cut out my favorite things I loved about cruising with them (the sushi bar, the really good thick saucy pizza, limiting where you can find open buffets through the mid afternoon- one teeny tiny grill at the end of the ship with a huge line-, or grill that doesn't open until midnight and only sandwiches are open before that etc, or less shows running each night, less comedians playing - that was our incidence this time on the Dream vs our last 2 prior cruises, all these cut backs) the less I want to cruise them. I paid more for this Dream cruise than I had on any other got a whole lot less than another CCL. Its a tough balance too because now when I see a 7 day CCL for 499, I think "that's a lot for CCL" but they actually will HAVE to raise their prices if they are going to compete for product. But no one wants to pay them because they know its Carnival, and not more upscale of a product like Disney or Celebrity. I'm not really sure how to help CCL but their desperate putting bingo games in people's faces everywhere, insisting that trivia and karaoke go right next to the smokey casino to try to tempt people etc., its just a bad business decision. Saving 3.50 for a cheaper spiced rum is also a desperate business decision. No bueno. You can't bring on what you want and you can't buy what you want. People are going to be unhappy when you eliminate their choices... Just my 3 cents on an interesting thread! Rare jimbo5544 Posted November 21, 2013 #175 Share Posted November 21, 2013 It is an interesting thread, on that we can agree. Your point about it reaching extremes and saving 3.50 as an extreme seems a tad one sided. The reason (if in fact this is the reason at all) they would do this would be on the level of marketing arrangement with another brand...say Cruzan or Bacardi (don't hold me to this as I am by far not an expert on rum). The 3.50 talks to an individual savings where the deal might net them hundreds of thousands (a whole different perspective) and this or any other type of thing along these lines is something they have to evaluate. I would agree that they want, read this really, really want to get out of the highly discounted fares. When that is accomplished, everything else will fall into place. There are several articles in the last day or two on some of the trade industry sites talking about this subject (Sea Trade Insider and Cruise Industry News to name two). Carnival has had an extremely challenging 18 months. They now beleive they have begun to turn the corner. Analysts tend to agree but need to see the results. 2014 will be a better year but the true measure will come in 2015.
